I have tow of these in take down models. The earlier of the two (1916), is a described in Murray, pg 3-29. The later of the two (1919), is somewhat different.
straight bottom to the butt stock, 8 vertical grooves in the trigger (as opposed to the fine cross-hatching in the earlier one), and 6 turns to remove the take down barrel.
I had considered the second might be a 'locally' converted rifle, but have gotten a Savage factory letter, telling me both were made as take down models.
Does anyone have other info on when the change was made and why?
