Recently in Oregon a grow operation on federal land was busted. The grow had 91,000 marijuana plants. Federal lands in Oregon have had several large grows in the past.which weren't widely publicized. The last one and I believe most of the prior ones were cartel operated and were very sophisticated in operation. A large number of those were discovered by hunters during archery season.

How long will it take before a majority of these operations will become cartel operations? The Cartels have the financing, expertise, operators/labor and distribution networks already in place. They have the monetary muscle to insure the use of the best in our legal system. Not to mention the use of extra-legal methods, force, etc..

The more states that legalize medical/recreation use of marijuana will add to the problem. Why pursue those who are providing a legal product? I'm probably overstating the case, but probably not by much.

If you are the cartel, it's better to rip off an illegal grow. The legal grower can call the cops, where the illegal growers cannot.
