We do.....my fast one is >> "Good bread good meat ...good lord lets eat! Got more but that's the old stand by AND a guy can say it everywhere, even the antichrist/sob in the crowd gives my fast one a pass that was from the movie Thunder Road. It goes "good food, good meat, getting late, lets eat", whereupon his daddy knocked the lad on his azz. Yeah, my family always, without exception, thanks the Lord for our food.

There are a few here who have been with me when I pray, either for food or a healing. I do not recite scripture to God nor do I tell him what to do. For food it is a simple thanks and request to bless it to out nourishment. For a healing I copy the way it was done in the Bible. It sounds like, "Be healed in Jesus name."

Before a meal, as at any other time, it seems better (to me) to say nothing at all rather than to be flippant or try to be witty about God.

I wing each one.
Sum it up by giving thanks that everyone in attendance made it there safely.
My daughter does every Thursday.

I was thinking there was a difference between giving thanks and praying Praying is simply talking to God, whether it be giving thanks, asking for help, or whatever else you want to talk to him about.

A quickie that I like is "Lord please bless these delectable vittles. May they add to our health and not to our middles."
I like that one and need it!

I'm not a very good person and I don't always think to turn thanks before I eat.
We always do at my Mother and Father's house.
I either wing it, or say the Lord's Prayer.

We do it. Sets a good example for the kids. Hope they will do it with their kids.

Jesus said (Matthew 6:7) Through all my growing-up years, our family meal-time "grace" was simply "Our Father, we thank Thee for these blessings. Amen." We broadened that, when I had a family of my own, from " οΏ½ these blessings οΏ½ " to " οΏ½ Thy blessings οΏ½ ." It was sorta comical to see how my over-pious spinster sister-in-law (high-church Lutheran missionary) showed her disapproval οΏ½ she continued to keep her head bowed for some while after my "Amen" as she muttered something that we couldn't hear, then finally looked up with a heavy scowl on her face. I had to grin at that. Well, Kenny,,,,so much for saying the Rosary.

"Dod is date, Daddy, Dod is date!" William (now a retired MD) reminded from his high chair.
The whole place went quiet (smiles aren't noisy) as Uncle J, Aunt A, and J Jr bowed and Uncle J murmured "God is great, God is good. Let us thank Him for our food. Amen."
I'm told that the whole restaurant was quieter after that οΏ½ quieter conversation, even less tableware clatter.
"Good enough" isn't.

None of us are really "very good people". We all occassionally forget to be grateful, or otherwise express our gratefulness. He knows our heart and really doesn't require much of us. Just accept His grace and understand where our blessings come from.

No. I'm grateful that I have a job and food, pretty sure God knows that without me saying anything. We did when I was a kid, but as I got a bit older I realized muttering some memorized words under your breath really didn't mean anything. Still, most people did it just so anyone watching would know they were upstanding god-fearing people, I guess.

Praying over our food helps me to remember and acknowledge that everything I have comes from God. We always hold hands around the table. When our grandchildren are visiting you can tell they really like us saying grace and holding hands. You can sense it gives them a warm feeling of togetherness and strengthens our family bonds.
