I've shot targets out to 600 but have recently gotten an itch to try 1k. I'm shooting 178 grn Amax (bc .495) about 2,700fps w/ 24" Krieger. I know the gun and load are up to the challenge, however my scope isn't. I have a 4-16x50 Monarch that only has 40 moa of adjustment. After adding the 20moa base and finding my 100 yd zero, I've only got about 31moa left.
My question: Would it be possible for me to shoot 155's (bergers or scenars) fast enough to get to 1,000 yds without going over 31moa?
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Give JBM ballistics a try. It will provide you with the info you're looking for. John

Even done 1K with the 125g NBT over HBL-C2 in a 308 (24 in. bbl @~3200 fps) with less than 30 MOA.

You could get some burris signature rings with the offset inserts and give yourself some more MOA to play with.

You can get as much as another 40 moa with the Burris Signature rings and offset inserts. I purchased the combination set which comes with .005", .010", and .020" offset inserts.
Depending on ring spacing, and if I remember the facts correctly, each .001" offset is good for about 1 moa.

Thanks guys
I'm going to do a little research on the Burris rings. It sounds like they may be the ticket.

The other problem you will run into is running into the transsonic zone, so you will be better off with a 30 moa load. You can get pretty close with a Scenar or better if you push it hard enough. You might have to hold on the top of the black square, but that's close enough.

I can easily get 2950 with Varget or TAC and 155's in my 24" barreled .308.

I was getting to 1000 with 30 moa, running the 155 Scenar 2800 fps, at 4500' elevation. This was a 20.5" barrel.
Down near sea level 33-34 moa migh be needed at 2800 fps MV. If you can push MV up to 2900 or so, you might get there at 30-31 moa. Looks like it will be close.

I would look at the Scenar, Bergers full bore or Sierra Palma (2156) all in 155gr. If you can achieve 2850 fps they all perform very well.

Good stuff guys thanks a lot. As soon as I get my hands on some 155's, I'm going to give them a go.

The 208 amax will get you pretty close if you can drive it close to 2600. It's possible with RL-17. I've done it with about that much adjustment but I was running from a 200 yard zero so that's why I think it'll get you close but not quite there.
