Proud owner of a S&W 625-3 45acp revolver. Been experimenting with cast bullets and getting great accuracy with 230gr LRN (452). Would love to find a commercial or "private" cast bullet in a flat nose or truncated cone design for shooting hogs. So many out there from the commercial casters that I'm looking for suggestions from any of you with personal experience shooting pigs or other critters with cast 45acp. Like to settle on a bullet that I can punch paper or critters with and try a couple hundred for load development before buying a couple thousand. Our lease is eat up with pigs and will have plenty of opportunity at 20-40 yards for dishing out some pig medicine with my 625. Don't know if this is the correct place for this question but figured you guys are the experts and may have experience with this specific application. Thanks ahead of time for any suggestions. Also, do any of you home casters ever sell your bullets?

I don't know if any commercial caster has them, but I like my 200gr HP from my Mihec cramer style mold. Shown on right.

Next to some 9mm's that I cast from another Mihec mold.

In between a Remington 230gr. FMJ, and a HG#68 Copy

You need the Keith designed for the 45ACP sixgun, Lyman #452423.

Here's the Lyman #452424 in hollow point form: http://www.westernbullet.com/ly4gr20.html

Or if you're happy with something like this I can cast you some.

Novalty and Creeker, both nice looking bullets. Not really looking for a HP unless you have had some experience with that particular lead cast HP working well on game. Creeker that's a great looking SWC. I actually have some Berrys lead cast 200gr SWC and they shoot pretty well in my 625 w/Bullseye. Would those be any good for poking at a pig?

That #452423 looks like exactly what I had in mind. Know where a fella can buy any of those already cast/lubed?

Another mold design to consider if you like the #452423, is RCBS Cowboy Mold (CM)

I haven't had any experience with the HP being used on game. The pentagon shaped hollow-points do show some merit over the round HP. (Taken from the "net" not sure of alloy used)

Here are some of the offerings from Missouri Bullet Co. in 45.

I know of no bullet business casting this bullet in solid form. Why do you do a google/bing search?

How much room do you have in your cylinder for cartridge length? I ask because I used to load a 255 gr. SWC, designed for the 45 Colt, in my Colt Series 70 Gov't Model. Used Blue Dot, but don't recall how much and my logbook is in the shop. Anyhow the load chronographed at 45 Colt velocities and was very accurate.

Spent a couple hours searching today for the 452423 style bullet for sale, no luck. Plenty of places offering the molds but no finished bullets of this design. Guess that's why so many people start casting their own. Not an option for me right now. Thanks for all the info guys.

Ohh...I forgot about that one. A guy gave me one of those moulds several years ago and I cast up a few hundred before I sold the mold. They shoot quite well in my Colt.

Anachronism, I googled the LBT's. great looking bullets with large flat points and they ought to do well on pigs. Found Beartooth and also an individual selling LBT completed bullets but only 255gr and up. Interested in selling any of the 230's shown in the pics? No biggie and I'll keep searching but if interested feel free to PM me.
35WN I know a lot of folks run up to 260gr lead in their 625 so I'm pretty sure there's plenty of throat in mine. I'd just prefer to stick with 230 or maybe 240'ish max so I can try and keep my POI the same with both my plinkers and hunting rounds. Unless I load up enough of my hunting round to use it as a plinker.

Penn Bullets sells a 230 Tapered Cone Flat Nose. Might be another option for you.
