So I'm getting ready to pickup a Tikka T3 super lite in 22-250 and I want to shorten the LOP for my son's use (he's 6). Can this be done with the factory plastic? Should I look to purchase a custom stock? Anyone here that can help me out with this en devour or recommend a smith?

I would personally try to just shorten the factory stock first. Take off what you need, and either glue on a new pad or perhaps try to epoxy the factory pad back in place. You will likely want to regrind the pad to look better

Either way, if you keep the rifle long enough, you will have to buy a new stock

So I've done it. I cut just shy of 3"s off the factory plastic so with the pad back on his LOP should be around 11. I will say I was impressed to find that the plastic "rails" inside the stock to support the recoil pad screws goes full length of the butt, so reinstallation of the pad should go well. I'll post some photos later.

You will have to epoxy in a backer and screw the pad into that. Use a small size pad.

The existing "rails" you speak of are now too narrow to fit a pad which is usually spaced at 3.120" for a medium, small has shorter spacing.

You can get the backer at Brownells. Also, you might get lucky and find a ready to fit pad. Check out the Kick-Eez web page. They have templates of ready to fit pads. See if one fits. Brownells also sells the pads.

So I've completed the length of pull customization...with an extra touch. A huge thank you to darrenK for the link to his work...the Flip Flop worked perfectly. Here are some progress photos:

That turned out well. Hope the little guy likes it.

With the aftermarket stocks becoming more available lately, it seems factory pull offs are popping up for cheap prices. I'd snag one or two and hold on to them for when the boy grows.

Keep those kids shooting!!!

I did something very similar on my son's .223 T3 Lite. Painted it sage green with silver and black splatter. Looks and shoots great.

Nicely done!
