BAT started making 3 lug, now if we can only get Remington to do it.
Short lift and better performance - I hope it becomes the next improvement craze.

Let's see... Remington 700- 2 lug Savage- 2 lug Nesika- 2 lug Mauser- 2 lug
Beginning to see a pattern here. Besides, where do you put the full length extractor?
What fresh Hell is this?

My only exposure to three lug actions are my three Cooper's. My objection to them is the noticeable increased effort to open the bolts. When shooting prairie dogs off a bench, it tends to slighty upset the rifle. Personally I don't see an advantage in a three lug, but that's just me.

IIRC, Remington's already tried several multi-lug designs, and had dismal success with 'em...................710,770, 783, 788.
But hey, if you like 'em, I'm sure you can scarf up bunches of those models out there. Have at it.........

Remington's new mil. sniper action is 3 lug and has inter-changable bolt faces for Lapua, H&H mag. face, and standard 30-06 case head sizes. Maybe thay will get smart and make it civilian commercial.

With big hot rod cartridges, a 60 degree bolt lift gives up 1/3 of the mechanical advantage one has when beginning the extraction of a cartridge from the chamber. And, there is the problem of where to put a good, blade style CRF extractor as was also mentioned.

As I recall, their 788 was guilty to some extent of stealing the trigger lock time and accuracy thunder from their upper shelf rifles. Lumping the 788 with those others is hardly a fair shake to the designer of the 788.

Yawn, had a round stuck in an Abolt once, lacked camming leverage......short lift increases work and loses leverage IMO.
Only action I had a beef with was cock on close '96.....
2 lugs and 3 have both proven accurate. 788s were quick on lock time, most crazy accurate, but I understand rear lugs allow case stretch....IDK how relevant it was in 788s.

+1 Two lugs in the front and 1 lug in the rear... Right on, but still the 90 degree bolt lift to give maximum leverage to case extraction. Still the worlds standard.
