Well guys,
I told you I would let you know how my rifles were coming along. I sent 5 off to have rebarrreled, and have received them all in fine shape. This is the first one done up, and ready to go. It started life as a heavy barrelled 225 winchester push feed model 70.
I was going to make it a sporter style rifle, but somewhere in the discussion it turned out to be a heay barrelled 26" 6.5-284, .800 at the muzzle. Had to do some channeling to get this one fit.. Stocked in a HS precision sporter stock, Talley rings, and bases.Topped with a Leupold 6.5-20X40mm. I read a lot about loads as I have never loaded for one of these rascals, and decided on 5 different powders to try.
Honest to god, got the rifle back, put the rings, and scope on, borescoped it, and went to the range. Could not check what the OAL would be because of no piece of brass to put on my stoney point, so I just keep sliding it in till it chambered and backed off 15 thousands
This barrell was pristine, with no fouler shots, or tested at Pac-Nor.First up IMR-4350 The first shot was dead center and little to the bottom, next two shots decided they liked the same hole. Very first 3 shots thru this rifle turned in a .270 3 shot group..no kidding 2nd load it did ok about .665 with a different load. Then I shot theIMR7828 3 shots .196.. 3 shot group. After this a .121 2 shot group With H4831, I had to pull the other one because of stiff bolt lift. I shot a total of 20 rounds with 5 different powder, and if you average all groups it would be less than .500". Pretty damn impressive if I do say so myself. All bullets were nekked 140MK's..I clocked anywhere from 2900-3150fps, and yes some were too hot, and were pulled down, and repowdered. I did not check anything on this rifle different than others, but damn it is nice to have a rifle come to you, instead of having to search for the right recipe.I t just goes to show if you use quality parts, and someone that knows what they are doing, you can get an honest tack driver. This rifle is simply a tack driver out of the box..Thanks to Ernie, Chris, and Penny for such great work. Makes it easy on my end..
One down 4 to go..Aint it fun..
Sounds like a real pile of [bleep]. You best let me have it for cheap and take the worry of finding the right load off of your tired hands. A bad shooting rifle can simply drive you nuts(grin). Flinch

Lee, that sounds like a very "boring" rifle. I wish I had it. E

Does the SA limit powder space too much with that long of a bullet?? I asking 'cause as I was looking in Cartridges of the World the OAL was stated as 3.2".

It's not a short action, its a long action, and I can seat the bullet pretty far out if needed. Pac-Nor short throated this one, so I can touch the lands at 2.850. Right now those loads were shot with a OAL of 2.825, which means I have to push the bullet pretty far in, but if the rifle does not mind neither do I. I am getting good velocity, and great groups so I can't complain.
