Are there any other Taylor users out there or have most of us have died off?

Working on one now. It should be up and running by spring. I really was set on a 375 taylor, and then the 375 ruger came out. I found a voere mauser in 7 RM at a gun shop for a good price sent it off for a re-barrel, and I hope it will stop the voice in back of my head that insists that I must have a taylor.

Yes, 416T on a VZ-24 Mauser here, ran the 400 to near 2400 fps to test full potential of the round.
Settled on 2350 fps, sweet shooter, and not much recoil for the amount of performance you get.
I love mine.

Came close years ago until the 416 Rem came out in the Win M70. Didn't seem to make much sense thereafter?

I built one on a Ruger 77 tang safety action, years ago. The first stick splintered on the third shot. So the next one, a laminate, was glass bedded by a gunsmith. I shoot it pretty regularly, about 100 to 150 rounds a year. I just love it! My standard load is about 2200fps with a 400 grain bullet. I also shoot cast bullets as well and some 350 grainers as well. Very pleasant to shoot, brass is easy to make, and bullets pretty easy to find,; just a wonderful cartridge in a gun that fits me perfectly. And I am still alive, I think. Bfly

I had one built on a VZ24 and shot it for a few years. I then realized I'd never hunt anything that would require a 416 Taylor and I dumped it.
400's at 2150 or so are comfortable to shoot. Kick them up to 2300fps or so and it gets a little sporty

Mine was a bargain built on a WBY Vanguard. Taught me alot. WHEN I do another it will be a 411 KDF. I will be knee deep in regular shooting and small big game bullets as 405s and 41 Mag handgun cast and jacketed bullets fit the 411. I still have 2 416 RMs but I do not just shoot them for fun any more.

Came close years ago until the 416 Rem came out in the Win M70. Didn't seem to make much sense thereafter? I ran across a 416T barreled action with brass and a set of dies here on the 'fire for 175 bucks, had a hs precision syn stock, a set of steel Talleys and a spare 1.5-5 Leu, hell, I had to.............. I got bored with a stainless 300win mag Savage 111 so one of the barrels I have for it is an E.R. Shaw in 416 Taylor. More than I need for the lower 48? Since when was "Need" part of the equation? I carried it for elk this fall but had no chance to test it out. So far I've only shot 350 Speer Mag tip through it, though I do have an RCBS 350gr bullet mold for it.

Have had mine for over a decade. I still carry it several times a year-mostly into bear bait stations backing pards up or on a few over-nighters for brownies. I can tell you that it is decisive on brown bear-400 grains of "thump'em" is more than satisfying in your hand up close. It kicks like all hell once you hit the 2,350 range, it's not pleasant at all Have a moose, 4 bear, and a couple of yotes with it at this point. It was very fur friendly on the yotes. Have not taken an animal in 4 years with it though it does get to take the air... FN Mauser, Shaw barrel cut @ the "Campfire" requisit 23" and the muzzle sports the classic blue electrical tape covering. Laminate stock, glassed and double cross bolted by me, topped with a Leupie fixed 3 power (better sight picture than the 1.5 to 5 for my eyes) and long enough to give a real secure hold under recoil. Wouldn't trade it for any other size or type (or a magnum) for the purposes I have here.

Here's mine, Left Hand Ruger 77 MkII, barrel by Harry McGowen, I put it in the Bell&Carlson stock myself (SteelBed is your friend:) ) 54" Moose in British Columbia, 1996. 350gr Hawk w/.050 jacket Did not shoot it for a long time, have begun to again recently since taking up casting bullets, keeps it affordable. There is another guy over on the CastBoolits forum with one also. Kevin

Gunner Hey Gunner. I've got the same thing and just booked a Cape Buffalo hunt in Mozambique for 2015. Any chance you would be willing to share that 400 gr load? If I get the Taylor to shoot the way I want it to, I'll leave the .458 Lott at home. donsm70
