I am about to buy a scope for my deer rifle and was considering the meopta meapro 4-12x50. Does anyone have any experience with this brand scope? Other choices would be zeiss conquest, Leopold vx3, Bushnell elite, and maybe vortex viper. How will the meopta compare to these and what would you recommend. Low light capabilities will very important to me. Thanks for any advice.

I have three older Bushnell Elite 3200's and really like them. While they were not the 4200, they have served me well the last 10+ years.

I've had or currently own all of the brands you listed. IMO the glass in the Meopta is better than those your considering.

Bushnell is made in China these days I think. I would get the Leopoldo or the Meopto. Not looked thru vortex in a while.

Own 2 of that line (MeoPro) in the 3-9x42 version, one with plex reticle the other a #4 reticle. Yes the thin part of the plex reticle and #4 is a little thin but, it hasn't been an issue for me during legal shooting hours. Really like the optics. Of the ones you mention I'd go with MeoPro or Conquest before the VX-3. Wish they made a 4-12 with an objective smaller than 50mm.

There's a thread on this forum that discusses where Bushnells are now made. While there are someBushnell models made in China, their new Elites are made in Japan.

Meopro is on par with Conquest...maybe slightly better but I think they are very similar. In fact, not sure they aren't made at the same plant?? The Meostar line is a step up from Meopro and I have to say that line is excellent...one common denominator on the Meopta...heavy! but again, so is Conquest!

I doubt I will ever own one, they sound pretty multicultural to me. Who fixes a Bushnell if it breaks? I know Kahles, Leupold, Zeiss all have good service departments, I know this first hand. I will own my first Meopta shortly but before I bought it I spoke with a fellow named Reinhard Seipp who works there so they seem to be pretty straight up, he may be the CEO or something I don't know for sure. anyone comment on Bushnell service?

I will say that I would get a Leupold VX3 3.5-10 before the VX2 4-12. And Meostar if possible. Keep an eye on the Cameraland demo's or even call Doug and tell him what you want.

I have a lot of Meoptas. I have 3 Meostars and 3 meopro in the 6-18 power range and they are the best scope I have ever had at their price point.

jimmy,
Bushnell has their repair center near Kansas City. I dealt with them recently on the repair of an older Simmons. Bushnell now owns Simmons. Bushnell ended up replacing the scope with a more expensive Elite model. It took a lot of back and forth with a supervisor in their CS. In the end, they did good.

Coach,
I have two of the very meoptas your considering. Great glass, I have the #4 reticle on each of mine and the only knock would be the fine cross hairs on the #4s may be a little too fine in low light. The turret covers can be a pain to put back on after adjustments too, but thats about it. My first one ran me close to $500, the second I caught on sale for less than $400 six months later. That's the fastest I've made a $400 decision in a long time. If you're wondering if you're getting a good deal or not, as a general rule, it's a $500 scope all day long anywhere.
