On my model 1920, 250-3000, S/N 22XX there are the letters "L M" stamped at the back of the trigger guard next to the back screw. Any ideas? Thanks, Steve

Probably a previous owners initials being the finish just around the letters is missing. While I'm thinking of it, where could I find information on the 1920. Seems from my searching there not much on this fine rifle out there. I found a repo brochure/manual but not much help on field stripping/cleaning, etc. I certainly would appreciate any info. I could find.
Thanks, Steve

Best info I've ever seen on it is a writeup done by 260RemGuy here at the forum. Here's an articles on it: http://books.google.com/books?id=-SQiAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA24&dq=%221899+savage%22#v=onepage&q=%221899%20savage%22&f=false And an old thread: https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbth...s/4848088/Re_Some_articles_and_ads_about

I suspect those are inspector's marks - mine is stamped with a "K".

Wow, the model 1920's started at 1000, that's a very early piece!

Jim, That's interesting, my 1920 is in 250-3000 and the wood is not checkered. I'm really glad to have it.

I've seen a few 1920's now that were not checkered and I think they are factory stocks. They're way to close to the checkered versions not to be. Actually owned a non-checkered one myself.

Were the holes drilled and tapped for the 2 receiver sights done at the savage factory? thanks, Doug

Were the holes drilled and tapped for the 2 receiver sights done at the savage factory? thanks, Doug Doug - there was a discussion about the cocking piece sight and the early 1920's did not come drilled & tapped for it; they also did not come with the cocking piece always the same width which would require shimming the sight to mount it, a friend of mine had an early one and the sight would have needed to be shimmed to fit - Stever measured some of his early ones with out the holes and they varied in width.

A lot of the 1920's don't have the receiver matched up with the exact stock/buttplate. As per 260RemGuy, who's owned a bunch.
Mine doesn't match up exactly either.

That doesn't bother me that they don't match.....it is still mine and it still shoots.......

Just saying that even when they don't match, it's likely correct.

The fitting sure looks like it would be correct. It isn't the only Savage I have that numbers don't exactly match, but probably came from the factory that way..... I just hope the deer don't notice....
