A guy told me something similar once, but later I heard they nailed him with a spotlight. grin

Now if the question would have concerned a 223 AI, the difference would truly be negligible.

I hear many guys on the fire take elk to elephants with those.

If Gus answered it, he would say that if the earth was eating itself, then the 350 magnum would ruin too much edible flora, but the lead would be toxic waste, so it really doesn't matter.

The .350 Rem can be reloaded with pistol bullets but the .22 short can be used in pistols. Assuming proper chambering of course.

For no particular reason.

Running .22 short reloads w/ 25grn TTSX. Never had a problem. Below are all of the pictures of bullets recovered from game:

An old boy down the road from here once killed a bear with a .22 short, but the closest he ever came to owning a .350 RM was a Remington 600 carbine in .222, his "serious" deer rifle.

Gus's answer to this vexing question would be something like, "the .22 short is much better suited to use in sub-arboreal forests on alternating leap years in months that don't end in y, but I wonder what the solution would be to take the same shot at the same range with the .350 if wearing Ingwe's leopard thong while negotiating a deal for a paracord sling with Marty............"

To get the full potential of the 22 short you have to use a long rifle chamber. That way you can seat the bullets out farther.

So far what I'm hearing is if:

1) you AI the .22 short,
2) chamber it in a firearm with a 1-7" twist barrel,
3) use a Barnes mono-metal,
4) and put blue tape on the muzzle,

it's fully the equal of the .350 mag.

No, no! If you do any one of those things, it will be the equal of the .350. If you do all of them, it will be far superior to it. (Until you do something superfluous to the .350 case, then it's a whole new ballgame.)

Could we just neck the .350 case down to .22, and then AI it of course, and have the best of both worlds?

We could call it the .22 Campfire.

That's a fantastic idea! At the same time, we could squash the .22 case down so it was shorter and wider to accept the .35 bullet. Not only would it turn the short into a medium bore, but the shortened case would provide all of the wonderous magic that come with a shortfat case!

Where are you finding them ring-shaped primers, to let you handload rimfires? smirk smile

It's a very simple process, for anyone with a modicum of ability and even a rudimentary machine shop, to pound out the primer dent and then to spin some homemade priming compound into the rim with a centrifuge. Damned sissified people these days can't do tschidt for themselves.

Love the idea of necking up the 22 short to 35! Would that still headspace on the rim? What an awesome squirrel load, less meat damage. More like mild bruising or superficial redness and swelling.
