Yep. Best less bang-for-a-buck powder out there.

After a lot of load development, I've determined that Trail Boss works best for testing guns that I wonder
"If I pull the trigger, will something come out of the barrel?"
I used TB on a 45 colt SxS with 21 inch barrels and could never get 1100. 8grains of Unique did it though.

I use trail boss in plinking loads for my Browning 92. Somewhere around 7.5 grains gives me about 750-800 with a 260 gr. LSWC. No kick, little noise, and a satisfying thump, and very friendly to young shoulders on kids that want to shoot a 'big gun'. Kills pop cans and grounded clay pigeons with authority. The five pound can I have should last quite a while.

Not of interest to you, perhaps, but it is a great powder for sub sonic loads. 9.0 grains behind a 180 grain bullet is sub sonic in my .308 for use with a suppressor.

Is IMR Cheerios...errr... I mean Trail Boss the only powder available to you? Don't be afraid to try some of the "shotgun only" powders. I've work extensively with AL20/28 in my .44 Special and have also worked with AL Pro Reach in my .357 Magnum and .44 Special. Many times these powders are on the shelves because there's no handgun data on them from the manufacturer.
Too there are fellas over at the Cast Boolit site that have worked up handgun data for some of the oddball shotgun powders.

I think 35WhelenNut is right on. I used shotgun powders in low power loads and they worked fine many years ago in my Herters 357 shooting cast bullets.

Yes I have used lots of dif shotgun powder in handgun loads.. I almost never load full power as it takes the fun out of it. I have a chit ton of red dot and unique at home. Since I travel a lot for work I take some basic reloading stuff. Have it set up in my travel trailor. So the only powder I could find was trailboss. I worry it won't get enough vol in th 44. I think max load is 7.5 gr. any one do 8.5/9 gr loads?

Tried them out today. They are a bit I softer to shoot. And that load with Barry's bullet is not as accurate as my cast load . But still shoots plenty good for plinking..

Yep. Best less bang-for-a-buck powder out there. LOL. Good way to describe it. When all you need to do is completely penetrate a paper target, Trail Boss is a great way to go. Favourite powder in 45 Colt 255 gr RNFP Cast. Also works well for a plinker with 405 grain cast bullets in 45-70. Minute of empty 12 guage hulls at 50 yards.

TB shoots cast bullets from my ultra hunter 45-70 to the same spot as IMR3031, only half the speed and kick.
My youngest daughter will hunt with it in the fall.
