Hey y'all,
I posted in classifieds too but I'm on the lookout for a left handed 700 short action or donor rifle. I'm looking for a bdl with older trigger, but it wouldn't be a deal breaker if it had an exmark.

I've talked to Gander Mt about their deal ($470ish?) but the ones they had locally were all adl, and with the conversion kit and bottom metal, I figured it wouldn't be worth it.

Academy has a better deal but from what I understand, the individual stores can't order the guns. They only receive what corporate orders for them.

Any insight on where to look would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Bradley

I usually by BDL rigs and convert them to ADL. Tough to score those old lefty s/a rigs. Good luck in your search.

Thanks. I wouldn't mind keeping it an ADL but I came across a good deal on a stock that has a hinged floorplate. Putting together a rifle for a lefty is almost the same as putting one together for a right hander except it cost more and takes longer haha.

One suggestion is to contact Montana Rifle Company and buy a new action from them. Little more pricier but they are nice actions.

I just took a peak at the MRC website. Actually pleasantly surprised. Their pricing was not as high as I expected for a raw action. At $800 for a LH SS action, if you consider the cost of purchasing and then machining a Remington factory action, not so much of a price difference.

Also, for their short actions, the mag box length is 3.1" This would alleviate the issue of using a Short Action with cartridges that push the normal 2.8" mag constraint (VLD's, DTAC's, .257 Roberts...)

Not a bad price for polished Rem action. Wonder if IBA does anything to them or if they are stock. Beats having to search for donors.

The only issue with the MRC's are they are slightly heavy. If you are trying to build a light weight short action you may be disappointed. Your FFL dealer also receives a discount so the price might be cheaper if any of the discount is passed onto you.

I'm going to keep checking gunbroker and the pawn shops. Speaking of weight, I wish I could pick up one of the pierce titaniums. It would be nice to put together a lightweight rig starting with one of those.
