I have never seen talley rings up close in real life and I have never met anybody in these parts that has used them and I have never seen them for sale in any gun store or gunsmith shop.

You folks talk about them all the time, but I just can't relate.

What is the hoopla/attraction/advantage of these rings?

What about bases, do talley make them too?

I like the LW set-up. Bases and Rings are one unit. Yes, they make separate rings and bases.

I like their vertically split rings with bases. They are a well machined, sturdy, good looking, and would go well on the finest custom rifle.
I have not examined their light weight system, but they are horizontally split which I generally try to avoid because I don't like the pressure against my wrist when carrying.

But for a general purpose stainless/synthetic knock about rifle, I am learning to like the cheap new Leupold "Rifleman" vertical split light weight rings on the weaver style mount.

The vertically split rings have one thing I dont like about them.
They cant be lapped.I pretty much always use horz splits as I can lap them and then check them with high spot blue and my test bar, before scope mounting.

Can't like vertical, myself, though I've got 'em kicking around.

LW's are slick,in that they are homogenous. Losing 50% of the components, ain't a bad trade,IMHO.

Very good stuff.................

Guys, not trying to stir it up by any means. But, I cant find any difference in quality between $40.00 Talley's and Leupold's $14.00 Rifleman rings.

BS,
I have one set of the verticle splits. All you can do is make sure the bases are "flat".For me Its like picking a scab.It bothers me to this day that I couldn't check how well the verticles lined up.That set will be my last.

I'm a PRW fan.

I really like their clamping surface area, symmetry and lack of projections........................

BS,
Funny, I was just going to ask you how you like the QRWs?
I have a couple rifles set up that way. You'd think that lever would be a bother but i've yet to have a problem. The PRW would be cleaner yet.I should look into it.I never take my scopes off anyway.
Its a reasonable date.Weaver base, PRW QRW and lots of good lapping area. You know that with these custom actions comming along that you might not need to lap.Bordens action is actually flat on top.It just gives a person more options.
And as you might say.
Options is a good thing.

I just got a set of Talley QD screw locks for my Encore. Haven't tried them out yet, so no first-hand experience to relate.

FWIW, I chose them because I wanted a quality QD mount that would make scope swappin' as easy as barrel swappin'. And I like the idea of no levers sticking out and catching on things.

Out of the box, they seem to be very precisely made. The seams from the vertical split in the rings nearly disappear when you tighten the screws because the two halves fit together perfect. I have high hopes.

Need to talk Talley into makin' a LW set-up for the six-lug MkV, with an extended front ring. They have it in their standard set-up. I'm sure it will come someday. May have to do the standards, as I'm not diggin' my 6x42 in standard rings.

I have only bought the one piece scope mounts, but if the rest of the Talley lineup is as good, and I'm sure it is, then there is nothing not to like.

A great design and flawless machining.

Used Leupold standard (Windage adjustable) rings. POI shifted a lot. Bought talleys, now I can drop it off a cliff witjhout a POI change.

SU35:

I have Rifleman rings, but they require a base. LW talleys require no base.

is it a short action or long action??? I really dig those SA 6-lugs actions. WBY went T3 on us and now use a uni-action and simply adjust the mag box and bolt stop accordingly. I have both a 7-08 and 280 on the same sized action
