It may have been covered already but my search came up empty.
I do most of my hunting in Europe in January and February. Due to my work schedule in the States this is the only time I can get away. I have my Sako A7 SST, cal. 30-06 in mind. I have all the permits to own and use hunting rifles there. What kind of procedure I would have to follow in order to take this rifle with me and keep it there permanently? Has any of you done it or anything similar in nature?

Ive never dealt with the problem, but if you have all the required permits etc.and intend to live there most of the time.. the rather obvious question of the costs you might incur in transporting, and licensing a rifle vs selling your rifle here and buying one over there just come to mind

Go up to the African hunting forum and ask there, lots of international gun traveler experience there.

Will do. The reason I would take it with me is mostly an issue of being attached to my rifles. Second: stainless synthetic rifles are hard to come by especially an A7. Thirdly: prices are astronomical in Europe.

Chances are good you will have to get a permanent import permit on the 'other' side. You will also need to get a export license from your your ATF. Then, I doubt you will be able to transport the rifle yourself for a 'permanent export' (not sure though). Although rifles are expensive in Europe, chances are good the time and process will cost you more to just get your rifle there than buying a rifle in Europe.
