I have a Rem AWR in .338wm that will often not extract the empty cases. I will cycle loaded rounds and they pop out fine. I've cleaned the extractor and the ejector but no luck. It usually takes the empty cases from the chamber but leaves them on the follower. Could someone recommend a smith or company (does Kampfeld do this?) to me. I don't think I can fix this myself.
Thanks, David

You can bend the extractor a hair to grab a little bit more of the rim.

If the case being pulled out of the chamber it sounds like a problem with ejection vs. extraction.
Does the ejector move freely if it's depressed into its hole?
Does the problem happen regardless of the speed with which you move the bolt? Or is it just when it's moved slowly?
On the other hand, the extractor may not be holding the case long enough for the ejector to do its work as the case mouth clears the receiver.

I had about the same problem with 700 Rem 7mm mag. I had it replaced with the Sako extractor. Now problem is finding the brass as it throws them so far.

I would definitely not recommend a Sako extractor. They work OK until one shoots down your action bolt lug raceway. They are too dangerous. If you feel the need to change, use a M-16 extractor.

I'm pretty sure the extractor is not gripping the rim firmly enough to do the job. This seems to vary with different brass and it happens at any speed. I'll try bending it out a bit-like not to put a Sako/M16 style in it.

FWIW I'm sending the bolt to Mr. Kampfeld to be replaced. I know it will be right if he does the work.
