The days of the police leaving it on all the time are gone.

For years, they have shot when they see the whites of your eyes.

Too late for the detector then.

Yea, the defeator switch made Radar detectors pointless. But municipal police here are not authorized to use radar. We use Lidar, and Vascar usually

Get the Valentine ONE. It is the best detector on the market, bar none, including those sneaky lasers. Your only hope with a laser alert, since it is such a narrow beam, is to immediately brake when the distinct laser alarm goes off.

There is driving the speed limit, or just keeping with the flow?

What's the rush?

In my experience radar/laser detectors do give some protection.

Wrong.

Lidatek laser defender is effective in defeating laser, unless you are too close.

It sounds a warning and also sends out an infrared signal that confuses the sending unit, so no reading is obtained. The signal is sent out for 5 seconds, so you have time to check your speed.

Laser detectors are worthless because by the time they sound, you're it.

V1 is a good radar detector, and can work even when instant on is used, if you're lucky enough that it is used on traffic in front of you first.

Not against vascar they won't. And as far as lidar. When your detector goes off, its already too late

If you don't drive more than 5 mph over the posted limit you generally won't have a problem ,the time saved in the long run usually doesn't amount to squat

+1 for the Valentine One.
Not much use in the city but great on the highway.
That said having one is not a "free pass". You still have to drive smart, that means driving, not on the phone or listening to loud music.
Don't weave in and out of traffic and never be the first one out in front.

You need enough distance between you and the car ahead of you to slow down when he gets scanned by the police.

Valentine has a continuous upgrade program at modest cost so you can c

You assume that LEO's nationwide use what you use and that when a LEO shoots a vehicle a mile ahead of me, that my radar doesn't go off.

I've used Escort Passport 7500 and then 8500's for well over a decade. They work and I know they work because I've logged the miles WITH them, rather than making assumptions based on limited experience and exposure.

They work, they may not work everywhere and they definitely don't work well against laser, but fortunately very few State Troopers/County mounties, in my region of the country use laser and almost no one nationwide uses VASCAR.

I'll put money on more local agencies than not in Pa use Vascar

On the interstates here it's almost exclusively lidar and there isn't a detector that's effective against it. If it does go off all it just told you is you got nailed.

Like I said, you're making assumptions based on your isolated frame of reference. The OP doesn't live in Pennsylvania, nor do the vast majority of the rest of posters here. So claiming that radar detectors don't work because of a system that really only one state uses is a bit misleading.
