Ive been happy with the lee collet die so far and have not had to bump shoulders yet. But planning to.
instead of a body die, can one use FL of a slightly larger caliber with the decapping pin removed?
For instance, a 30-06 FL die for a 270 shoulder bump, or a 280ai die for a 6.5-06ai?
Or would the small area of unsized brass around the base of the neck be detrimental?

I use a 7mm-08 FL die as a body die for 243 all the time. Comparing the SAAMI drawings for the cartridges showed me the critical dimensions/angles would be right.

The 270 and the 30-06 are different.
Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Give a man a welfare check, a forty ounce malt liquor, a crack pipe, an Obama phone, free health insurance. and some Air Jordan's and he votes Democrat for a lifetime.

The 270 and the 30-06 are different. Only in the neck length, the datum is the same. Cheers.

Or would the small area of unsized brass around the base of the neck be detrimental? Do it all the time... a 270 can use an 06 die as a body die.. it just has to be adjusted slightly due to the 270 being a hair longer..bring one down on a dummy round..and set it...

I also do it all the time also. I take all the guts out of the FL die using the same caliber die I am loading for, set the shoulders back .002 and then bush the necks down for proper tension.
Unless I am missing something, why are you using a die from another caliber? Not that it won't work, given the dimensions are correct, just curious. Or do you not have the correct die set?
