I prefer the real ones of course, but I dislike carrying them. The Pack Rack Magnum works pretty well, gives great volume and fits in a backpack.

I have a set of real ones. But like SKane, I don't like to carry them much either. I carry a rattle bag. I can't tell which works better because I've only had either work a time or two.

The bags sound great and carry great. Real ones sound great and are a pain in the azz for everything else. Also, it is probably unwise to carry visible antlers during hunting season.
If you simply must have volume, the real ones are hard to beat.

I've never had much luck with bags or the little plastic clicker jobs. I prefer a nice 150"ish muley rack for rattling antlers. Plenty of volume and I can rake trees/brush, thump the ground, while I call. In the right area, at the right time, rattling is the most exciting way to hunt deer, without a doubt.

I took my largest blacktail rattling, and have been successful a few times with it, as well as watched the real deal two bucks "rattling" bring in the one I shot last fall. All real antlers, the bigger the better. Deeper tones, bigger antlers, bigger bucks fighting, you do the math...

I also like the real horns best, but they are truly a pain to carry in the woods. I only use them in the pre-rut early rut time frame. Other times I use the rattle bags.

I have the rattle bag that is made of a rubber material with holes cut in it and the dowels inside. Not sure of manufacture. Got it from academy. Sounds good I think. Several times this past season during the rut, I feel certain the rattle bag has contributed to bringing bucks in close to me. However, I think they respond as well or better to grunting.

I find pawing the ground, snapping branches and rubbing the tree base works as well if not better Rhys pure ratteling.
