I know it's a long shot and I have been all over the place with my posts lately, buT I would like to find a LH Mod 70 in .270 standard. I have several of them in other calibers and want one to kinda finish out my pursuit of them. I would be open to buying outright or working out a trade or such. Stainless or blued is fine. PM me if you prefer.

That seems to be the toughest one to find. It's the only one I'm missing from my stainless set. I foolishly sold a blued .270 I had several years ago.

Good luck. Sold off a couple of extras over the past couple of years. Know I'll never replace them. But that's what the Blaser dnd Forbes are for...

As another alternative. What's everyones thoughts on just buying a stainless MRC action or barreled action and dropping it into a stock? Called ITD two weeks ago and he said he would do a stainless MRC barreled action with a Douglas barrel for $1150.00 or so.

That discussion started to come up in the thread below... If you go that route, I would really like to see/hear the results. I still have a hankering for a .257 Roberts. The extra mag box length on the short MRC's would eliminate any concern with short vs long action for the Roberts...

If your goal is to collect a complete set of Winchester LH M70s, it obviously won't do. However if you want an M70-ish LH stainless rifle, the MRC will do just as well. MRC offers their ASR rifle line that retails for about the same price as you were quoted from IDT. You could also order just the barreled action from MRC if you don't like their stock (I don't). It's a personal choice, for myself it has to say Winchester on it but that doesn't make it right for you.

Why not just have MRC build the rifle? They cost about $1,100, add $30 for stainless and come in a wide range of calibers:
243 Win, 257 Roberts, 260 Rem, 6.5 -284, 7mm-08 Rem,7 x 57 Mauser, 308 Win, 338 Federal, 270 Short Mag, 7mm Short Mag, 300 Short Mag, 325 Short Mag, 25.06 Rem, 270 Win, 280 Rem, 30-06 Springfield, 264 Win Mag, 7mm Rem Mag, 7mm RUM, 300 Win Mag, 300 RUM, 338 Win Mag and 338 RUM

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

I have one (a walnut/blued .270 win) in my rack that I am saving for a standard boltface donor. I suppose I would trade it for a 30-06 and a little $$. Or no 30-06, but a lot of $$.

What would the current price be for a blued .270 or 30-06 model 70?

Don't know for sure 10gen. Never got utah to tell me a price on his 270 blued. But I'm sure it would be north of $1,000.00. As a note to this post, I have several nice guns I would consider trading for the right Win 70 in 270. Would bundle some together to make the math work out if necessary. Possible trade bait includes a 1100 20 gauge, a 700 XCR in 30-06, blued 270 MRC in 270 WSM, Browning stainless stalker in 300 Win, Mauser 3000L in 7 Mag.

Values on LH Win M70's run from $900 (+/-) up to around $1600 (+/-). Stainless models bring more than blued models. .473" bolt face tend to bring more than long magnums which tend to bring more than short magnums. Knock off if they have been modified or dinked with.

I sold a blue .270 that had been rebarreled and bedded in the wood stock for $900 a couple months ago. There was a SS .30-06 (?)that went for about $1800 a few weeks ago. Most will be in between...

That's my perspective. YMMV...

The reason I could not work up the courage to set a price is I am more interested in trades than an outright sale because I don't think I'll ever be able to find another one at an affordable price. Prices are nuts--I sold a walnut/blued 30-06 on gunbroker for north of $1500 some months back.

Exactly. The only this worse than buyer's remorse is seller's regret.

I have a blued L/H 270 and that thing with 140gr hornady BTSP is a tack driver. Oh I will never get rid of it either.

if you decide you need some extra cash to bid on the the Model 70 270 that is on gunbroker I would be interested in the xcr 30-06.
