I have just recently purchased a Carl Gustaf rifle, but need some help to identify if its Husqvarna or a FFV Carl Gustaf
The rifle was originally a .243 Winchester, but has been converted to a 6.5x55 Swedish with a new Walther barrel
How do I tell the difference between the Husqvarna built rifle and the FFV Carl Gustaf , the serial number on the rifle is 631859, however when I did some research on these rifle'S it was stated that the serial numbers was never stamped on the action but on the barrel.
The rifle has a timber stock and rosewood forend tip!
The action is smooth and the trigger is excellent
Note, I live in Australia and the number may have been stamped on the action for compliance reasons?
Any help appreciated

I have an Husqvarna - FFV in 30-06 that carries SN 5093xx. This rifle has the smooth push-feed 8000/9000 style Husqvarna action.

If I could find more of those actions, I'd never build anything on a 700 action again.

I 2nd that thought... grin I have 2 at the moment and always on the lookout for more... One is a S&W Mod C on the 1900 action and the other is a Carl Gustaf Deluxe (also a 1900) in .25/06. Someday I'm going to find a Mod: C in .308 Win... wink

That serial # range is an FFV Carl Gustaf rifle for sure. The serial # on those rifles was always stamped on the receiver and not on the barrels. So your 631859 is the factory 6 digit serial #. With a rosewood forend tip your rifle is a Model 9000 if the bolt is just polished or a Model 8000 if the bolt is jewelled. The 8000 was a higher model and had an engraved floorplate, nicer wood with a gloss finish etc. I would check your bottom metal unit/bolt because the 243 from the factory would not have been set up for longer cartridges. The bottom metal unit had a spacer for the short action calibers due to the fact there was only one action length.(30-06 or standard length) Also, the slot in the bottom of the bolt that the sear rides in was milled short so the rearward travel was limited to the short action length. Check to see how these things were modified for the 6.5x55. Hope this helps.

Ok, thanks for the update, upon checking the rifle ( after removing the bolt from the action ) the slot on the bottom of the bolt has been milled forward to allow the bolt to travel rearward further to accommodate the longer 6.5x55 rounds
I loaded 2 rounds of Lapua 139gn Scenars into the magazine and fired them into the butts ( 50 yards ) at my local range last weekend, they feed from the magazine into the chamber with no trouble at all!
The trigger is just excellent
I will conduct some load testing shortly and post the results
Thanks again

Given the other rifles of the same model that I have shot here in Sweden, I imagine that it takes just a fingertip to work the bolt...

Although I would not mistake it for a slow rust blue, I think that Black-T is a nice-looking finish.

It is one of the smoothest bolt actions ever made and with Black-T added it is just more of a good thing.
