Roads-I would say a hearty Amen to that.

I've always said that hunters were some of the most arrogant and ignorant egotistical people out there........point made I guess!

It is my thinking that if you cannot find a way to set up your life so that you can hunt on your own,... with out paying or having someone hold your hand..., you should not attempt to be a hunter nor call yourself one.

Aint taking the bait, but you're still a dumbass......

Is this a sort of left handed invitation to exchange hunts with BX? Or is it continuing near sightedness about living in Alberta and looking down your nose at others?

If you ever become adventureous enough to hunt thousands of miles from your home, say Mexico or Africa, you will also be a customer dude.

I wont be calling you any names, but I will suggest that you are completely ignorant about hunting in the south. I wont suggest it, I find you guilty of it. It aint that easy.

Let's get this back to the original point.

Time to expand your horizons. Since I've hunted down in McIntosh, I can say it's time to take that lease money and hunt outside the South.

Sounds like the biggest thing you'll miss about the current lease is the camaraderie of your compatriots and bragging rights that go with the season.

For $4k, you can hunt Anticosti Island in Quebec. This well timbered island has 500 people and 125,000 deer! Most hunters come home with two deer bigger that they grow Alabama. I hunted the Jupiter 12 camp run by Mr. Rene Borque (pronounced Bork). It's a deer paradise. In our group of 8 in camp, 15 deer were taken, 5 were 10 points + and very heavy. Noted gunwriter Jon R. Sundra was among those in camp. Contact Sepaq Anticosti (800-463-0863) for information. Ask for Rene Borque.

Another possibility is to save two years of lease fees, and hunt South Africa. $8K is more than enough for a 10 day hunt that will enrich your life and expand your horizons. There are several outfitters on this board that can hook you up with South Africa. I've hunted with John X Safaris more times than I can count, and plan to go back with them next year. Contact Gary Phillips or Karl van Zijl.
www.johnxsafaris.co.za

For two years worth of that deer lease you could do the western US for elk.

Three years worth of that leases gets you a buffalo hunt in Zambia, Tanzania, or other spots. It can get you a big time hunt in Alaska. In the mean time, you can get your deer fix on your own property.

Let me add that you shouldn't take offense to a barbed post. There are some that believe that if you can't stalk your prey barefooted and kill them with your bare hands, your not a "real hunter". Ignore such self righteous rantings. There is plenty of positive advise here for you. I like the exchange of ideas we get with other 24Hr members. Isn't that what the baord is about?

Hunt well.

I cant help you with your problem, but would you mind if I asked what that $4000 buys you? How many weeks can you hunt and how many deer can you take? Can you hunt other species there outside of deer season? I definitely am ignorant about hunting in the South!

Alabama deer season is from Oct 15 through Jan 31 with a limit of a doe and buck PER DAY. One person could legally kill approximately 210 deer per year. The deer lease in question obviously has more strict requirements but the bottom line is two trophy bucks per year. No culls or young deer allowed. Access to the land is year round and I can hunt the entire season. Only other game around is turkey which is by invitation only. I can turkey hunt with the owner but rarely need to as theres plenty on the other land I have access to if I get the notion.

Many states in the South certainly have liberal bag limits. South Carolina has a season that lasts nearly 6 months, doesn't it?

without reading this whole thread, i'd keep your lease for now.

Pick a 'campfire pard or two, invite them to your place and host them on a hunt...then have them reciprocate at their place.

Everyone gets to hunt a different place/type of critter than their usual, without paying a bunch, and you don't give up your spot....

Been mulling over that scheme and think it may be the best idea yet! With all the guys around here surely I could get myself into something.

No trades needed as I have everything you have.....plus!! However you are welcome to hunt Central and Northern Missouri monsters with me anytime you like......freee!!!

Thanks for the information. For what it's worth, your lease fee is a LOT cheaper than what I would have to pay here even if I could find someting. But I'd probably be able to shoot a few more deer.

I'm heading to the Kalahari in Namibia in two weeks with a mate to shoot 6 Gemsbok, 2 Steenbok and 14 Springbok between us. Yes it's a cull but it cost me less than $4000 including hunt costs, airfare and car hire.

There are plenty of options in this world.

Thank you!

I'm at a loss to explain some of the more provocative posts that appear now and then. Not all who enjoy shooting and hunting have forty years of experience spent in the field and at the bench. Reading some posts will give the impression that the author is Jeremiah Johnson, G. David Tubbs, P.O. Ackley, and God Almighty rolled up into one.

I learn by doing, reading, observing, and asking. This is a forum to ask. The contributors here have vast and varied experience. It is often as valuable to know what not to do than what to do. We don't need to agree on everything, but there is no need to savage some poor fellow for asking. Now my opinion on trolls might be different...... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Alberta,

Don't be an idiot. If you have to pay for hunting you shouldn't be hunting? I guess you must poach all of your animals huh? Them tags ain't free.

Just because we are in an enviable position is no reason to bad mouth the way things are down there. Lots of people + limited land = Paying for prime areas to hunt. It'll be that way eventually everywhere I'm sure. Maybe you should quit while your ahead?

Would get you to Alaska, a week on a boat, and license and tags for either a black bear or 3-5 blacktail deer depending on unit, fishing license and chance for some great fish, and a couple bucks left for the bush co <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
