I know there is pistol bullet data for 357 around, but I couldn't find barnes specific stuff. Anyone tried the Barnes .357 X HPs in 358/356 Winchester? Thinking they might make a mild deer load? FWIW, 20" 356/358 win encore barrel. Thanks.

have you thought about casting , i have used cast 200 gr. bullets with exellent results the rcbs 35-200 gr bullet mold is extremely accurate and cast bullets pay you back quickly , they will shoot with gas checks up to 2400 fps.

I get the cast pill parts, and can do that. Have done it with other stuff. I'm wanting any experience with the Barnes copper solid, HP pistol bullets in 140 or even 125gr, in the 358. I have heavy loads. I'm going a little 'reverse 35 theory'. I want a light bullet 'zipper', that'll stay together enough for deer.

Don't know. You might try the powder companies or Barnes. I've had very good responses from the powder companies but not Barnes. E

HH, Don't know why not, Nosler has loads for 180 gr Sil. handgun bullets, Speer has 125 gr-158 gr bullet loads. I have used 9mm bullets in my 9(358)x57 with good results-Mudy

I load the .350RM to mimic everything .35 down to .38Spcl, and you can do so too. You may do so even easier with the slightly smaller case.

Slow: H4895 with Hodgdon's down to 60% formula.
Slower: Unique starting at 10 grains and work up.
Slowest: Trailboss but this is slower than what you want.

A Unique load mimicking a strong 357M out of a carbine is easy, stingy with powder, and might be just what you want.

I haven't tried Barnes in light loads, because in addition to reduced power I want reduced cost in these loads, but they should be excellent,

Look at 2400 for a powder and start with 357 mag loads.

Those bullets penetrate big time.

Actually, I'd probably use a slower burning powder than that. That's because Barnes all copper pistol bullets raise pressures alot more than cup and core or lead bullets. With the slower powders, the chamber pressures can be alot lower thus keeping you out of trouble with these bullets. E

Don't know why, but I was thinking he's using them in a TC handgun.

In a rifle, yeah, I'd go slower powder.

My experience though is that TSXs don't raise pressure, they tend to lower it. It should be worth running a QL on 2400 in a 20 inch barrel though.

Until you find the mold that you like try some of these with 12 start-14 max grains of Unique:

NOE #360180<br>175 gr.
NOE #360180
175 gr.
Item# B-NOE360180
$18.00
NOE#3660180, .358", 175 gr. WFM GC Hollowpoint, 100 per package. Bullets are lubed, sized and gas-checked.

In .35 simple 158 SWC, this NOE 175, Speer 220, and Nosler 225 PT will keep everything from a .357 to a .350RM or .35Whelen well fed for anything from mice to moose; and in a pinch Unique and H4895 would be the only powders required.

The Bad Bob photo just cracked me up and reminds me that it's been too long since I've seen the movie.

The TSX uses pretty much the same loads as the cup and core bullets by other makers. But Barnes loading data, as well as that from the powder companies show the the all copper Barnes handgun bullets is much different from that of the cup and core bullets of the same weight.
For instance, using Ramshot Silhouette powder, the maximum load for 155 bullets in the 10mm cartriage is 9.5-9.7 grs. But with the Barnes TAC-X, 155 gr. bullet, the maximum load is 6.6 grs. The data I have for the .44 magnum and the .45 ACP is also quite different. So, talk to barnes about this, or be very careful working up loads on your own. E

Rovering, I'd love some of those 175gr NOE, but they're OOS right now.

Mainly loading some <200gr woods loads for deer/hogs, and possibly some light varmint 'poppers' for short range from stands, that might be fairly quiet. I do have some H4895 on hand, and am starting to lean towards some cast bullets instead of the barnes, and jacketed 125s for the poppers. Thanks.

A sign of the times.

We can no longer pick loads then buy the needed components.

Now, we must scramble for any components that we can find and work up some kind of load from the odd and ends.

The old Chinese curse comes to mind:

May you live in interesting times.

We do.
