Why is it so hard for people to realize that the Office of the POTUS can't be won without a candidate that excites the political base (Conservatives)? Fewer, and fewer, Republicans vote each cycle when squishy moderates from liberal States are the only choice. Maybe it will help if we run one named Bush? I think that the likes of Rand and Cruz could do this. Even in the face of the media onslaught. Rand stands a better chance IMO, because the fact that Cruz was born in Canada will be the mantra of the media and it will do damage in spite of the facts of legal electibility. Whoever can articulate the conservative platform the best is the most electable, imo. Bob is right in many ways though. Right now, we shouldn't even be talking 2016. We have to get through 2014. I'm pretty sure that if you were to ask both Karl Rove and Chris Christie, each would say that he's a member of the conservative political base and the other guy isn't. In fact, this whole conservative political base idea is pretty squishy and hard to get a hold of, when everybody who is not a Democrat is claiming membership in the conservative political base. But the one thing I do know absolutely about the conservative political base? Nobody appointed Hawkeye to say who's in it. Beyond that, it's all pretty much open to endless argument and finger-pointing.
