I saw a Remington model 30 express at my local gun store, it is in pretty good condition and a 35 remington caliber.Thought I'd ask those with more knowledge than me their opinions,he wants 850 for it.Any thoughts are greatly appreciated,it also has the factory mounted redfield peep rear sight. Thanks

Most of these in the 35 remington were rechambered as 35 whelens. I buy it if it hasnt been drilled or tapped. The gunshow this weekend a guy had one in a 30-06 it was in excellent shape for $750.

I had a Remington 30 Express in 35 REM a few years back and I
sold it to someone here on the fire, dont remember who though.
It was a shooter, drilled and tapped, etc. They are a heavy gun to carry around in my opinion.

yeah they are a damn heavy gun for anything in a 30-06 case and under.....keep thinking bout turning the M1917 Remington i have in 338-06 into a true big bore to take advantage of the weight to tame recoil.....packed the 338-06 and a different one in 30-06 for a season and decided i much prefer my light rifles for most my hunting....

Dave, I bought one at the local gun show last month that has been rebarrelled from 06' to 25 Ackley Mag. (noisy 25-06) I gave $100 for it but the receiver bridge has been altered heavily w/numerous holes for side mount, receiver sight, rear base holes as well as different size screw hols for the top mounts! I put a side mount on it and it shoots about 1 1/2 inches w/whatever I put in it, I figured not really bad for the money I have invested in it. By the way my bolt handle has the "flying bomb" stamped on it, is this a 1917/1914 replacement bolt or were factory 30's put out this way?-Muddy

I have two - a 30-06 and a 257 Roberts. Neither has any military markings. I think you have a replacement bolt.

My rule is- if I want it and can afford it, I buy it.

That said, the bolt thing might scare me a little. Maybe some research on the www might clear that up for you; otherwise I'd insist on the right to return it if fails a headspace check.

Assuming everything checks out, it sounds like a nice, pleasant shooter and a great cast boolit gun.

What fresh Hell is this?
