Didn't bone him, and the meat went to several different places. Hams to be smoked etc. I still have a BUNCH of it, and if anyone of you comes through this way, you are welcome to go home with some.

I should have, didn't figure you would want to mess with it on such a short trip here, dealing with your brother, and then BOOM back to Japan. But it is very likely that it will still be here when you finally get to land stateside for good. Hit me up then, for sure!

Maybe I read a different story than everyone else, but your "super" rifle gave you the confidence to "make" the shot, which ended up hitting the bear to far back, which caused the bear to suffer all night before finally being put down the next morning by your friend? Not sure I would be proud of myself in the same situation, but congrats?

C'mon man.. This is the freakshow, where azz shooting a critter and leaving it all night to suffer is a great accomplishment.
I replace valve cover gaskets every 50K, if they don't need them sooner...

No, you read the correct story. I can't figure out what so many before you were reading and why congrats are being tossed around like something noble was accomplished. If I caused an animal to suffer all night, the last thing I'd do is slap myself on the back and pose for "hero" shots. What a deal.

Rancho and Snake,
Somehow, I knew you two would be along to try and toss some cold water.Fortunately, I am pretty immune now, not so much effect when you are so predictable.
Hunt enough and you will eventually miss. Maybe by a little, maybe by a lot. One of the reasons I like Craig Boddingtons writing is he admits to and wrotes about misses, wounded animals, and failures when they happen. I wish I had hit him perfectly, no joy in his suffering for sure. The near miss does not distract from the effort and patience required to get an opportunity, or the size of the bear.
