To install on Colt AR-15, is 6 enough? 10 seems like most likely but 12 little more. 6 is 22' view at 100 meters, 10 is 13' & 12 is 10' view. Will use normal target shooting, coyotes & prairie dogs, no deer or large larger.

But would be serrogate for others in load develope if needed. Thanks for your thoughts & input.

3x9 for a SPR build, 1-4x on a working gun. Not going with a variable is silly, as the SWFA'a apparently can be relied on to actually work and not break

That is the reason I was planning SWFA. have variables on all my other rifles thought I would try a fixed. So to clarify you suggest the variables. It is my first AR though so not as familar with it.

Hard to go wrong with that 3-9. If you want a fixed, we need more info. What type of shooting and at what ranges are you looking at?

Will use it for truck gun when out, coyotes, in Ks, so could be 50 to 400 yds on set, pretty open country here. So if hunting only the 6 would be the pick, but like to punch paper in developing reloads & contests with other hunting buds.

Would like to try long range to 1,000 yds. I know the 223 is not the long range caliber of dreams. Have other rifles that could switch it to for long distance once I learn the MRAD system. 223 is cheaper than 270 Weatherby to shoot.

Then because they are reported so dependable to use on other rifles load development & in the event I think there is a problem with one of mine or someone's scope.

The difference in 10 to 12 on variable isn't that much difference when looking through them. Questions is 12 "too much" to eliminate it over the 10 on a fixed. My indecision is that it is just 3' at 100 m, & most things you shoot at aren't under that range usually but first finding a target in the scope quick is the short comings of a higher fixed power. But the 12 would be helpful in long distance.

So long & short is I know it will fit some applications great short on the others, never be right for all. I just haven't shot fixed with MRAD at long distances & want to learn.

So I can see, I need variable to do all this, isn't that the reason they invented them anyway. Have plenty of them. I want to try a Fixed SWFA, so convincing myself 10 or 12. Probably will end up switching it off the AR to one of the others in the end.

SWFA scopes, which some believe are made by Tasco, can be relied on not to break or otherwise malfunction ? Where are the tests that prove that ?

Yeah I have one of those inaccurate Tikka T3's shoots 1/2" right out of the box. 243 caliver

I dont think you would go wrong with any - 6,10,12. When you say 50-400, I lean toward the 6.

Eremicus, the reliability of this line has been well established. Spend a little time on long range sites or check out most any long range competition. They are not at the top of the pile. But they are solid.

I recently went with 12X's on a couple of my LR 700s, and I'm really happy with them in that role.

But I'd go 6X on an AR15. Big FOV, excellent eye-relief, nice and bright. For coyotes, small game, etc, and general purpose use at typical AR15 ranges, I think 6X is the best compromise.

I've got a Vortex Viper 3-9x40 on my scoped AR, but a 6X would be fine with me.

When calling Coyotes and using my AR's i have the scope set on 4 to 6 power depending on the terrain I'm calling here in the East . If hunting in the open country of the west a little more power may be wanted . My favorite scope on a AR is the 1.5x6 or 2.5x8

Is the SWFA SS a one piece tube or is the turret saddle glued on the scope?

My 3x9 is quite obviously one piece. It has a bulge in the tube where the turrets are but there is no seam or joint.

Well I ordered the SWFA 10x & have been waiting, called them after some time, on back order, so hopefully arrive someday.

I've been thinking about on in a 20X on a silhoutte rifle. can some one tell me a true weight on a strait power version ? think they listed like 21oz. but read several talking how heavy they were.
