I will probably wait until I find a cheap donor model 700. I know if I'm patient I will be able to find one for $300 or less. Add a bbl in MR contour and drop it into a TI take off. Easy as pie. That's what I did.

Lots of nice looking rifles on here. I had a Ruger MKII years ago in the Bob, it was a darn nice rifle. It was donated to a benefit auction. I will just have to keep my eyes out and see what shows up.
Somebody mentioned it would swim in a long action 700, I screwed a 6mm barrel on a long action 700 and it works good so I may have to do the same with this if I can find a good one.
A 722 would be nice don't see to many of those around. Probably on GB or something I imagine.

Well, you could always buy a used Savage and order a replacement barrel for it in 257 Roberts. Have four 257R rifles, a 91 Argentine, 95 Chile, 98 FN (all mauser actions) and a Ruger Hawkeye. Sweet shooting round the 257R. But, as suggested a Remington 722 in 257R would be nice....had quite a reputation in its day.

Can you still get standard brass for it these days? I checked a coupe places and all they showed was "257 Roberts +P". I guess that's thicker brass/higher pressure loading for newer rifles.

I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubblegum. I do tend to fit in well wherever I go in person. The campfire is the most outside exposure I get. No TV, no newspaper.

I love seeing all of this gun porn.
For those of you shooting the Bob, what is your favorite bullet for deer?

Three rifles. Each one shoots a different bullet better.
1) 115 grain Nosler PT
2) 100 grain Nosler BT
3) 100 grain Hornady
Extra information...all three shoot the 90 grain Sierra HPBT better than any other bullet, but I don't have total confidence in it's performance on deer.

just got back from the range earlier. my bob i had built last fall finally got test fired. it was a DRILL! 75 grain hornady hollowpoints, 75 vmax, and 100 hornady interlocks all shot very well.
very happy with it. IT&D screwed it together, a 95 dollar green mountain blank from midway and a 24/47 mauser.
i like it enough i sold a couple other guns for cash and various other reasons, and i am down to the bob and a 17hmr ruger american. another awesome one.
wife has a 98- my first custom rifle- and i had it made into a bob for her and she loves it.

Got one of those still in the box in the back of the safe...the boy is only 2, his arms aren't long enough yet. He'll get bigger.(Ordered it RIGHT after he was born). Been fiddling around with some Mauser stocks...maybe I'll keep 3 instead of 2(for an 8x57 and a 9.3x62)...I should probably figure out some good deer loads and I can't shoot the boy's rifle...he's gonna get that baby NIB.

I don't always shoot Mausers, but when I do...I prefer VZ-24s.
