If you don't spend much time hunting, you won't lose much brass. A. Here in CO we are allowed to shoot one deer a year, if you are lucky enough to draw a tag. If you shoot once or twice, that is whopping $2 to shoot a deer. B. Lapua brass seems to last forever. I have lost count how many times I have loaded my current batch. Here is a pic of a 22-250 case compared to a Creed. I personally think the Creed case is superior, requires no prep, is properly stamped, and is cheap. Still not seeing how necking up 22-250 brass makes more sense.

If I wanted to make sense, I would stop this silly shooting game altogether.

I see where you guys are coming from. I just have a hard time losing expensive brass. I figure at least 5% loss per firing, whether through my own idiocy on the press or simply ejecting cases into a snowbank while sending multiple rounds in a coyote's direction. I'm too "Scotch" in nature to accept this with $1 a piece brass. Billy quit dropping that brass!

243's are hard on barrels, and the couple I had were goofy with pressure swings. I still have one, but when it dies it will be something else.
PS, I shoot every weekend not once a year.

The five or six I've had displayed none of these tendencies. Oh I could pretend they did, but it would mostly be a bunch of bullschit I came up with by reading the internet. In good weather I'll often shoot a couple times a week, varying between rifles and handguns. But to be perfectly honest with you I'm losing interest in centerfire rifles. I'm about due to find a new hobby. Maybe cocaine and hookers.

Took care of that about 13 years ago, and learned all about why internet velocities were not to be trusted.

Does the wind stop blowing in Wy? Yes, for a few seconds when it changes direction. That's when you shoot.

P-G, I've heard that gets old real quick. Stick with rifles. I was a little indifferent and thinking I was going to sell a bunch of long guns a couple of months ago while working on my 2014 catalog at my graphics guys office. I dialed up Melvin Forbes and since I didn't own anything that a 123 or 139 Scenar (thought I'd buy a few bullets off them so they'll stick around) or a new 129 LR Accubond would work in asked him if he would obliged me and put one of his Model 24's together. He called last week and put his painter on the phone with me. Wife and I are down here in SC this week to be at youngest sons graduation from Army boot camp and transport him to AIT in Va Beach. Gun Might be done next week. Thinking I'll break it in and come up with a couple of recipes it likes and when the youngest one comes home from AIT in August see if he likes it. ULA Model 24 in 6.5/284 Norma. 24" Contour 2 Douglas SS 8 twist, Timney Trigger, Talley's, 13 1/4" LOP. Maple and Oak leaves with gray Fern mixed in the 3D look paint. CereKoted action, barrel, and bolt. Should be a pretty good looking rifle and if it shoots like the ULA parked in the Heritage now there will be no excuses.

Dave Dave, I visited with Mr Forbes at last years NRA show. Said if I was in town to watch my Grandson playing for the Mountaineers, to stop by. He was very pleasant to visit with.

Butch, Let me know if your coming up this year for a little football. Headed your way in a couple of weeks for a Rio and a wedding. Since this is a what are you putting together thread I'll add another build spec I am going to do this summer. Savage Varmint action w/bottom metal and Accutrigger from Jim at Northland, Shilen Match grade Varmint Contour 26" SS - 8 Twist all in 6.5 x 47 Lapua. Precision Nut and Lug. Probably in a Choate. Buddy of mine has a head space gauge and a barrel wrench. Same rifle with a Shilen "Select" Match 28" Full Bull shot a 400 at Rainers in Zanesville, Ohio last year. First 400 shot since the range was built. Shooting RE 17 and a 140 Berger Hybrid. Your grandson playing this year?

Dave, He started last year as a Freshman. No reason to think he won't this year unless an injury prevents it.

They have built me four or five 20 ounce stocks and I have no qualms with their work. Having Jim ship me the barreled action allows me to sidestep the Excise Tax, $250 or more, on a new rifle build.

I'm going to finish up a 7.62X39 Mini Mauser project that got started about 5 years ago. This thread has gotten me motivated again. I got out in the garage this weekend and went back to work on it. I shortened the barrel 2" and re-crowned so now I have a true Mini Mauser carbine. I installed the sights and NECG front barrel sling swivel. The front sight is a Ruger #1 and the rear is an old Browning. I removed all the factory bluing and polished it up a little so it's ready for rust bluing which I'm going to try to do myself. The stock will be going in the mail this week for a checkering job. It's getting close.
