Uh...paying cash is not suspicious. It is, in fact, the only way one can buy a gun without one's wife knowing exactly how much you paid for it. I have a buttload of $250.00 guns.
I haven't bought a gun of any sort since 1992 and I sold that one years ago. I think some someone claiming to be me may have been buying a bunch though.
