Was considering a new scope for my semi LW 270WBY. Rifle with mounts goes 6-12. I was really leaning toward a Swaro Z5 with a BT but a 3-18 VX6 is right there. Problem is that $1000+ is A LOT of money for me plus I am not sure these are much better than my current scopes. VXIII 4.5-14x40LR Conquest 4.5-14 Weaver Super Slam 3-15
One other option is the new 3-15 Conquest that is ~$800.... Post your thoughts! Dave

I have the Conquest HD on a semi lightweight 7RM. It is excellent mechanically, with really nice locking turrets. Optically though, it has a very curved field of view on lower magnifications. I am still deciding if that is a big enough problem to move it on.
The VXIII AO that was on the rifle previously worked well, but lacked field of view at the lower end.
My deer hunting partner has the z5 with the BRH reticle. It is a very nice scope but lacks a turret. The BT version of the z5 is only available with other reticles which are very fine and might be an issue in low light.
The VX6 has a very short tube which may be an issue with mounting.

Any other comments? Saw a 4-16x50 Zeiss Diavari for $1500 but it weighs 25oz...

The Zeiss HD5 in 3-15 is a great scope for under $1000. If you don't want to spend that much, get the 4.5-14 VX3. I have two and have no complaints.

I have a z5 5-25 and it is a great scope. I had a hd5 and it is very comparable. The major difference is the z5 is sharper and a little better clarity on the top end. The reticle is a lot heavier on the hd5 which works great in low light. I think you would be happy with either

I have a Zeiss Duralyt, (not a Conquest) 3-12X50 that will impress even the Meopta people and it could be yours for $750.00 NIB...

Not bad for a good 19 ounce scope.

Comparable to xxxx? Glass wise, very good to excellent; mechanically, not nearly so impressive. Good thing Minox has a great warranty.

And the HD5 is half the price $949 vs $1479(SWFA prices); substantially cheaper but not half price.

That Zeiss looks real nice! But I have a Leupold FX-3 6X42 Heavy Duplex on my 270 WBY.

Dirtfarmer - of the Z5 or VX-6, which do you prefer, and why? Thoughts on which scope to go with for someone who doesn't twist turrets?
