Unfortunately, it is time for a new one. I really don't want to spend much, so that leaves most of the really good stuff out of the picture. I have a few choices in mind.
Anybody that can give me some good reasons as to "why or why not", it would be most appreciated:
John Deere D110 Cub Cadet LTX 1040 OR 1045 Husqvarna YTH 22V42 Craftsman 19Hp 42" Turntight Hydrostatic
Would LOVE to hear any opinions/experiences on which is best and why. Or a different similarly priced tractor not listed.
Thanks all..........

Spend a little more. If you're in a home where you plan to stay, and need the capabilities of a tractor, you won't be sorry...
Of the choices you listed, I'd call it a toss-up...

Wrong time of year to be buying. I got a Husq zero-turn a couple years ago in September that originally priced at $2800 out the door for $2k. Big R didn't want to store it over the winter or ship it somewhere else. If you can make it to the end of summer you'll get along much better.

A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

Making it to end of summer would mean paying someone else to cut lawn, which wouldn't end up as much of a savings.
I understand your point but waiting is not an option........

I've beat the crap out of a D130 for the past 3 years, for what it's worth. I did get it new for $1300.

I purchased one last year, & decided on the Cub Cadet. The Cub was the only one with Kohler power, while all the others had Briggs motors. One difference between the Cub 1040 & 1045 is that the 1040 does not have overlapping mower blades. They are not locked into a certain position under the deck. I do not notice any uneven cutting on grass with the 1040, but do see very slight differences when field cutting in the highest mower position.
The deck is easy to remove, the manual is decent, & the motor has plenty of power. I paid $1450 & am not disappointed.

I am familiar with Kohler, and like them. Have never had best of luck with B&S, but do feel they are better than what they once were.
I am also thinking a Kawasaki motor or a V-twin may be the way to go.....

I've got close to an acre of grass and I don't want to bring in livestock to graze the pasture this year. I'm leaning towards the Cub Cadet LTX KW 1046 or 1050 with the Kawasaki motor.
What would Porter Rockwell do?

Wifey has been running her little JD LX 173 since new in 1999, perfect little interior yard mower, I have only replaced belts and tires one time in 15 years, along with yearly spark plug, filters, and an annual greasing.
Nice little mower, guess she mows a bit over an acre with it here in the yard.

You're not thinking this thing through Ken. You should be able to pick up a nice ride-on like this and have enough left over for a new gun or a couple of custom knives.

I bought a Poulan (MTD) several years back at Home Depot just because it was the cheapest on the lot with a Briggs and Stratton engine. No problems in I think 6 years, except blades. I mow over an acre twice a week in the spring and early summer. miles

I have had a Deere L110 for ten years now and haven't had any problems. I don't know how much grass you cut. Maybe go to a Deere dealer and talk to them. I don't have much faith in the knowledge base at the big box stores.

If I were in your shoes, I would be looking at used mowers of a higher caliber. Something along the line of a John Deere 425, like I have. Last year mine was in for a simple repair and I had to borrow a cheapie to mow for a week. It was excruciating and I couldn't believe what a difference there is in performance. With all the rage in zero turn mowers, a guy can get a very good lawn tractor for his money and be light years ahead of the box store mowers.

This, alot of good JD 318's out there in the same price range. Motor makes the biggest impact. Kaw, Kohler and Onan
