Anybody know any guides or have any experience on a fall hunt? My job is sending me to a confrence in early October, and while I am there I may try and stay for a 3 day hunt if possible.
Thanks Micky

Jim Shockey, a good Canuck, runs a bear hunting guide service on Vancouver Island... https://www.jimshockey.com/pages/guided-hunts/bear-overviewThe island has a huge population of black bears, and they're not at all hunted hard. Also noted for some very big bruins.

Almost 8 grand for a Black Bear Hunt in Canada , you got to be kidding .
A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

Top outfitters get top dollar. Would love to go on one of his hunts but he is definitely out of my league.

Dave Fyfe is another name I keep hearing about. Not sure about his pricing.

A high percentage of Dave Fyfe's hunters take record book bears. I think Shockey started hunting with Fyfe and is a good enough hunter/showman/business man to go on his own and do well.

7800 for 5 days? In Ontario the price is 1/4 that. I realize the bears are big but thats nuts. Guess I don't know western bear hunts.

Wow, those prices are high. Especially given that our bear population is so high. The price is a little more than 1/2 that in my neck of the woods.

scenarshooter, thank you! You know what a big one looks like so that is a great compliment. Grandson's bear. When I recover some more from keeping up with him I should post more about it in the big game forum.

Congrats to your grandson on a very nice bear. I'd love to make some track and glass up some big bears on Vancouver island one day.

What a nice bear. You get what you pay for, sometimes.

No sitting over a bait barrel in BC. If you can find a BC bear for $6K you're probably doing pretty good. I will be up in the north Island this coming weekend looking to find my wife a decent bear. But for me its a $20 OTC tag... RC

I've hunted with Dave Fyfe and he runs a great operation. And yes, a lot of bears (including mine) make the SCI book, which ranks Pacific (island) bears separately. Those bears evolved separately from mainland bears for quite some time, and there are some interesting differences, such as shorter nose, bigger canines, social behavior, etc. In any event, it's a heck of a fun hunt in some of the most beautiful country you'll lay eyes on. PM me if you want more info.
