I have decided to take my 23" BRNO 602 375 on my brown bear hunt in 2016. I have RL-15 and boxes of the 270 gr TSX but have never shot the combo or the rifle as they were bought whilst living abroad. Curious at what others have experienced with this combo.

Check AR for loads. Mine in .375 Wby loves 250-grainers and RL-15.
(Not ready to advise H&H at 2800 fps myself.)

While I have never tried RL-15 in my 375H&H, I have no problem getting 2760 fps using H 4895.

The load I use is near max according to Barnes and with the 270 grain TSX I get 2760 fps and 3/4 inch groups from my Remington 700XCR.

I think it would make great brown bear medicine.

Good luck with your hunt Ed. I'm sure RL15 will work great in your 375. Mine loves the stuff..

TSX's love velocity so a 270g is probably a better choice than a 300g in a 375 H&H. I used Remington factory 375 H&H 300g A-Frames on my bear and it worked quite well. Don't think you can go wrong with either bullet.

For me, RL 15 and the 270 TSX is THE most accurate combination I've found in multiple 375 h&h's. With tuning the charges in 1/2 grain incriments I've found all my 375's would shoot under an inch and typically 1/2" with this combo. I would start near the top and work up to max with a load manual.

As far as bullet performance, I've only shot a deer with this combo and it was pencil size in, quarter size out, on a broadside shot through the heart, with a lot of blood splatter.

I'll put it this way. If I can't get a 375 to shoot well with a 260 accubond or 270 tsx, I'm selling it.

I'm shooting the 270 TSX in front of 75 grs of RL 15 in my 375 H&H. It runs just over 2700 FPS (24" barrel in NH SS M70). Groups are around an inch but may could be better if I changed targets. The #4 German in my Leupy 3-9 is pretty thick so I feel my hold is not as precise when shooting normal targets. I really like it on game. My first shot in the middle of the shoulder on an eland was taken at 195 yds, it didn't exit. I followed up with a second shot in the opposite shoulder when he turned to run but it was at a bad a angle and it only served to smash through that shoulder from back to front. The first shot was lethal and he only made it about 40 yds.

My first three shots with 69 grains of RL-15 & 260 gr Nosler Accubonds. From sitting, no rest, at 100 yards. I was pleased. It only churns up 2620 fps, but is very accurate. I've used it on three black bears since. Two at 300+ yards, spot & stalk.

Bullet performance has been excellent as well. I'd love to try it on grizzly or brown bear!

I used the same combo on my last trip to Zimbabwe. Complete past-throughs on eland and buffalo. Shot a lion head on at 18 yards; it shattered the heart and we recovered the bullet in his hind leg! To me, it's the most versatile combo for the 375 with plenty of penetration and a flat enough trajectory to make shots out to 300-400 yards.

EdM,

Here is a Nilgai bull, taken at 193 yards, with a .375 cal. 270 gr. Barnes TSX, MV 2800.
The bullet under the hide on the far side is apparent in the photo- bull was quartering slightly to me, and dropped in its tracks. I've posted pics of the bullet before, a perfect 'Barnes' mushroom. Better bullet performance would be hard to imagine.

I've used a fair amount of 270 grain TSXs and RL15. I can only get 2650 fps out of it in a couple of rifles but it has always been enough. I have found that TSXs, esp at these low speeds work a lot better if you shoot everything though the shoulders. Without that, you can count on your animal running. I'd much rather use A-Frames.

I have read a lot of great things about the 270 gr TSX. My brown bear guide prefers it over all others. Appreciate the replies.
