My son is moving...any advice on moving trophy's: kudu, waterbuck, gemsbok, etc. He is using a national mover, but would be interested in any pitfalls, etc. to be on the alert for. Thanks

I've done a number of corporate relo's with my trophies in the last few years. The costs quoted by the moving company to build crates was pretty high so my employer reimbursed me the cost of renting a small "UHaul" truck. My taxidermist told me years ago the best way to transport shoulder mount was to screw them onto a sheet of 1/2" or 3/4" plywood which works really well.

I personally would not trust the movers - even with a good crew. I have moved mine several times and have never had any damage but I am super careful. Good luck with the move - I've grown to really hate the process!!!!

I've had mine moved by moving companies and moved them myself.

The moving company came out a few days before the truck arrived an photographed and measured my trophies. Crates were made on the spot for the smaller trophies. The larger and heavier trophies they made crates for them off site and when the packers arrived to pack everything for the move they were crated. The crates were solidly built, very sturdy and I had no problems with any damage.

When I've moved myself, moving blankets were wrapped around each trophy and they were carefully lashed together to prevent movement. There was no damage.

I have had a number of corporate relo's with the big name movers and have had zero issues with them handling my trophies. They all hired someone local that built hell for stout crates and fastened the critters to the crate walls. Same as they did when trophies were shipped from Africa. Painless with zero issues.
