I got a sat phone call from Sitka Deer this morning. The call was kindof garbled but it sounds like a pretty nice 9 footer. I guess the Pickens where pretty slim they looked at 66 bears before deciding on this one. I had to cut the conversation short as I was leaving to to take my better half to a doctors appointment . I didn't want to give him the chance to rub it or anything like that. Not that he would wink. It will be a few days before they get home so I'm sure we'll get a full report then --- Mel

I'm fairly certain there will be a story with obligatory images once participants are ensconced!

I look forward to the pics and hunt recap.
Anyone know if it was he and Riley? Or did he hunt with someone else from the 'fire?

66 bears sounds like a whole bunch of glassing hours. My eyes would be tired for certain.

It was Art's permit. Don't know who accompanied.

Thanks Mike, I didn't remember who had the permit when he spoke of it earlier.

I'm glad he was able to connect and don't think it will be 'evenly rubbed'. smile

Easy winter and early spring made this time of year a little late, methinks.

No down on a bear... Down comes from ducks! Thought everyone knew that.

60 fathoms if you don't mind!!!!!!!!!!!! As described by the wonderful folks allowing us to pull their pot and even supplying the bait for us it is "just a little sport pot" and should be easy...

We left a little gut in the water on that one... The little sport pot turned into a 5x5 and was so full of big tanners we reset it with about 25 big crabs still in it after we skimmed the cream, removed a batch with missing legs, and returned a few undersized units.

I could not understand why we were only good for 10 short pulls at a time...

Stick's line is still classic, though... "A 42 fathom saltwater soak leaves bear meat tasting surprisingly like shrimp."

Wish we could have dropped the pot with the bear skull in it, but getting it back on the boat would have been a monumental effort!
