Picked up a few bags of 140 E-Tips a couple weeks ago and am wanting to try them in my 7-08 but am a little unsure of which powder to try first. Keeping my COAL at 2.80" will put me jumping them about .085" so I'm within Nosler's .050-.10" off the lands. The rifle is a 20" stainless 700 so I know I'll be a little slow on the speed side but just looking for some suggestions on which powder might work best with this bullet. Anyone used them in their 7-08 yet?

Big Game for all 140's and under in 7-08...
Near max load should get you at 2,900 or close to it...

I'm using a 140 TSX with 47.2 grains of RL-17 seated 0.060 off the lands. Getting outstanding accuracy in my gun.

H4350 or R-17 was kind of what I had in mind to try first. I kind of assumed I needed a little slower powder since the E-Tip has such a long bearing surface.

I've had four different 7mm-08s and they all liked RL-15. To be honest, other powders may work at least as well, but I have never seen a need to try anything else. In my rifles, (and work up to this) 41.5 to 42.0 gr. with 140 gr. bullets give me a little over 2800 fps. and accuracy is superb.

Just a little update on this, I worked up a load with some 2000-MR today and hope to try them out across the chrono tomorrow. 45.8 gr and the E-Tip turned the little 7-08 into a 280 wannabe.

2800 (2997 and 2806) fps at 45.8 gr and 2815 (2810 and 2820) at 46.0 gr. Not too bad for a 20" barrel I thought. Gonna load up 5 or so of each tonight and see how they group next time out, hopefully tomorrow.

Let us know how they do; accuracy is where it's at, velocity is secondary (within limits).

My Ruger 7-08 likes the 140 gr E tips near Max with RS Big Game.

I have found that .100" jump is where the best accuracy is with the E Tips in .257 100 gr, 7mm 150 gr and 338 200 gr.
Keep in mind that the E Tip has a long surface bearing and pressures spike quickly. Nosler recommends the mid range loads as MAX so work up carefully.
