I could probably find some use for a 165 gr Gold Dot @ 1650 fps or a 220 gr Hardcast @ 1350 fps.

Just buy a 10mm. I'm already getting 1400 out of 200gr XTP with handloads and a maximum charge of AA-9.

Good luck on finding .40 Super ammo or brass to neck down to make it. And not to mention the fact that a Glock 20 Mag holds 15 rounds versus a Glock 21 mag, which only holds 13 rounds. JMO, though, fr whatever it's worth.

Dream squasher, lol. However you do make valid point.

I think with the 40 super all you need is the conversion barrel.(?)

Good info, thanks for taking the time and effort to share your test.

The 40 Super uses a small primer, and better case support in the chamber. Having had a 10mm and gotten smilies/bellies in the brass, I kind of like the strength attributes of the 40 Super.

On the other hand, for cast lead, I prefer the 10mm case that only exposes the (gas-checked) base of the bullet to high pressure gasses.

This isn't my video, I just snatched it off Youtube and posted it because the performance numbers were better than most of the exaggerated stuff I often see quoted without verification.

Underwood Ammo sells loaded 40 Super ammo. Ammo is not much of a problem. 40 Super brass is made from 45 Win mag brass if memory serves.

Pretty good numbers, for sure, but not enough better than my 10mm handloads (which greatly resemble CHLinstructors loads, btw) to warrant a different gun for me. For some, perhaps it makes all kinds of sense. Me, if I cant kill it and stop it with my hot rod 10mm loads or my 329PD with heavy bullet loads I am thinking the next logical step to be a rifle of some kind.

And it is already difficult enough to find 10mm brass, I don't want to start up with another round for which brass is not too common. Been stockpiling 10mm brass, probably have enough to last a good long time now.

Thanks for the link and info, though. Always fun to see what someone has hot rodded and come up with. Mo speed be mo betta, almost always.

Was wondering the same thing. Hodgdon's shows 1170 fps at 35 kpsi which is just above what I get out of my Para 16/40/10.

No way can 1400 fps be achieved with a 200 grain XTP without excess pressure in the 10mm. The 40 Super has greater powder capacity.

That is what I was thinking, John

I am perfectly happy with my 180's at 1375, But my pistol has a fully ramped barrel, so fully supports the case head. And even at that I use new Starline brass with this load.

As I said before if I need more, I need a rifle.

I don't want to "hot rod" my 10mm, but Buffalo Bore and Double Tap sell ammo hot enough for me.

That said, a round similar to 10mm, but with a stronger case might be something of value.

Of course 1375 is really leaning on the 10mm.

1300 is spec
