Picked up a Savage MkII BVTS 22 last weekend. I put a Nikon P22 on it and so far have been really enjoying it.
This is my first new 22 Rifle. Should I break in the barrel like you would on a center fire rifle, or just shoot it?
What upgrades or tweeks should be made to the rifle?
Curious what others experiences are.

Not sure what your intent is for the rifle, but accuracy is also the common denominator regardless of use.
By use, i mean, plinkin, hunting,etc..
With .22 ammo still scarce, if you are lucky you should get 3, 4 or more types of ammo and "put it on paper", as I like to say.
See which ammo/load it really shoots best. I am still amazed at folks I talk too that dont understand how much difference can be seen on a target by just switching to a different ammo choice.
I use most of my rifles to hunt small game with. I use Eley SSHP's for that most times. But, I do use Federal 510, and CCI SV as well.
And on occasion, you will come across a rifle that shoots several ammo choices well, but rarely will they put the group at the same POA.
hope this helps.. enjoy the new rifle. Jut go out and SHOOT IT! dave

Break-in for a 22 LR barrel....don't think so. But then I'm old school and had a problem grasping the idea of breaking in a center fire rifle barrel when I got back into guns, reloading, and shooting about 7 years ago, after a darn long absence from them.
Anyway, just shoot your 22 rifle. Might want to clean your chamber and action, but I'd not worry about your bore. LOL, won another 22 target rifle competition today at range I'm a member. Have a problem remembering when I last cleaned the bore of my rifle. Now, the action and chamber of my rifle I can remember cleaning.

Thanks for the responses. I didn't think cleaning was as big of a deal with rimfires, but i wanted to double check.

clean the barrel when you 1st get it, then start shooting. i had to clean the barrel of my savage around 1500 rnds or so because cases were sticking in the chamber. accuracy was still there, though.

got it on paper this evening.
it seems to like mini mags pretty well groups about 1/2" for 4 rnds at 50yds the first round was about 3/8" high.
it really likes the Wolf target match rounds. It put all 5 rounds into 3/8" at 50yds. 4 of them were within 1/8" center to center with the 5th just a little bit out.
I am thrilled with the way this rifle is shooting.
Now I just need to find some of those Wolf rounds, the ones I shot were some a buddy of mine had that he let me try.
