I would like a fixed 4x or 6x scope with a #4 reticle. I know Leupold and Zeiss can install them and Meopta has one in their 6x but who else has them in their scopes and where can you buy them?

I believe Zeiss will still change the reticle to a #4. So does anyone have any experience with the Valdada 4x scopes?

IOR and Leupold 4x scopes are the same price

You can order direct from Leupold and get a #4 installed. It saves a little money in the long run vS buying a scope and shipping it to them. I have a 4x with the post & duplex I ordered direct from the custom shop. You can find out what the subtentions are from their tech support staff.

I had checked with Leopold the other day and they quoted $299.00 for the gloss 4x33 plus $50 for the #4 reticle and $20 shipping. So $369.99

Zeiss will change reticles, but not on the Conquest 4x32 and 2.5-8x32. I have/had two of each and contacted them to ask about it. They told me since they are no longer manufactured, Zeiss won't change the reticle (according to the CS I spoke with). Best bet is to grab a Leupold, Meopta or find an old Kahles Helia C with the #4 reticle.

I ordered a pair of Leupold 2.5x - 8x VXIII's from Rick here at the fire and had them install the #4 reticle. Sweet..

Are you talking about the older VXIII's or the new VX3's? Sometimes it gets confusing with the Leupold system of naming upgrades.

Have to be careful with older scopes from Leupold and what reticle fits. I called Leupold with the serial number of an M8 6x42 and asked if they could put a #4 reticle in it before I bought it. They said yes they could. I bought it and sent it in and they called when it arrived to get the payment info and confirm the order for the #4 reticle. About 2 days later the custom shop calls and says they don't have a #4 reticle that will fit but they can do a post and duplex. I told them to go ahead. I should have just told them to send it back. It is basically just the duplex reticle minus the top heavy part. That was my first dissapointment with Leupold's customer service. I would not have bought the scope if I knew I couldn't change it to the #4 reticle. So I guess basically I am either going to find a scope that already has the #4 in it or have to buy direct from Leupold

I seem to remember that the Leupold's #4 has the thick part wider than on some other #4's. I personally like it close together so I don't have to use the thin part on close shots at dark on low power. Sorry, I didn't use all the technical terms.

#4 reticles aren't all the same when it comes to the thickness of the inner and outer 'wires'.

Some are very thick (for low light use) and for fine shot placement at longer ranges I find them not as precise as most conventional plex reticles. The Leupold #4 was too thick for me and the #4 in my old Zeiss 6x42 Classic only adequate on animals <50kg. It was much better on larger game.

Try and look through a few at different ranges if you can, before you commit.

Edit: If your on a Leupold budget, do your eyes a favour and have a look at the entry level swaro Z3 variables. The #4 on that looks like a good compromise.

The meopta #4 is pretty cool. Very thick on the outside easy to see in low light and very thin in the middle.

Zeiss told me the same thing about their fixed power scopes, that is they will not change reticles in them anymore. I spoke to Leupold (email actually)and was told that from here on out they would not be performing reticle changes on any M8 scopes. Bummer!
