After contemplating a little different set up I sent a VX3 3.5-10 back to Leupold for a German #1. So far so good on a M70 .300 Win shooting 180 SGK hand loads. Look forward to running it out. Really like it so far.

Most people I show mine to don't really like it, but I love it. I hope it works out for you.

I can see the #1 becoming more popular as years pass. Most people are just afraid of them because the tip of the post covers up too much of the target. powdr

I put one on a shorter range rifle. Kind of cool and different and I like the less cluttered aspect but found I prefer a #4 any day. For me a #4 has everything I want for both quick acquisition or long range. The #1 does have that nice thick post which can come in handy. I hope you continue to dig yours. Congrats.

I found the #1 about impossible to use for any longer range shots that required holdover.
I also found it very difficult to use for running shots due to the lack of a horizontal crosswire allowing me to track along the wire.
Glad I sold mine.

I'm about to retrofit a Leuopld. Years ago, I had a post only scope and I never had a hold over problem. Kind of like a Sightron without the illuminated triangle. I don't anticipate hold over problems. I no longer want to kill something on the other side of a canyon anyway. I have to go get it and that's a problem!

hard to see in the picture but the scope is has a cds dial. Hold over is not an issue.

Mine had no CDS. Zero was at the tip of the post. On a 6mmR, for 200 just raise it a bit. For - say 300 on a coyote - just raise it closer to the back line above the shoulder. Agree, not the reticle for prairie dogs. We have mostly eradicated them in my part of the world anyway.
Pigs, deer, ferrel goats, and similar sized game at normal out to somewhat long range, I never had a problem.
