http://tinyurl.com/ldmeoIf yer gonna wear a helmet when being pursued by a 300 lb lineman...Why wouldn't ya wear on when cruising amongst 1,000 lb chunks of metal? I used to ride sans headgear...took one patch of gravel in a corner + a horse pasture ringed with a fence + the awesome discovery that regardless of HOW fast ya flap, gravity is gonna win, to convince me immortality is un-attainable....

Well then, with your logics, you should SURELY wear one when in a 8,000# pickup, right?? Story in the local paper this morning ( St. Paul Pioneer Press ) about a couple on a motorcycle who hit a deer. Both wore helmets. She's going to make it. He didn't. I wear helmets only within a major city's streets; such as the 494/694 loops in MPLS/St. Paul. Other than that, I haven't worn a helmet for 38 years of motorcycling. Bottom line: you gotta pay attention and never, ever, trust another driver. It was Ben's fault as much as anything since it's obvious HE wasn't paying attention and didn't have an escape route. Comment about Cowher's jawline is truly funny.. The guy can coach though..

I saw a quote by Ben saying (more or less)'The State of Pennsylvania says it's safe to ride without a helment becasue there is no law against it". CAN HE BE THAT DUMB?

July 6, 2003 - HB 152 - Governor Ed Rendell signed Senate Bill 259, a bill to modify Pennsylvania's 35-year-old mandatory helmet law. The law will take effect in 60 days.
Motorcyclists in Pennsylvania who are 21 years of age or older with two years riding experience or who have successfully passed the Motorcycle Safety Program can to ride helmetless. Passengers that are 21 years of age or older may exercise their choice in the use of a helmet too.

It was about two years ago. We have seatbelt check points, DUI check points but you can ride your motorcycle with no helmet, go figure. I always knew this state was backwards... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Florida- is this the quote you are referring to? It's from the ESPN website, who did the interview that's been shown over and over. ESPN: It's not the law in Pennsylvania to wear a helmet. Why don't you wear a helmet?
Roethlisberger: Because you don't have to. It's not the law. If it was the law, I'd definitely have one on every time I rode. But it's the law and I know I don't have to and you're just more free when you're out there with no helmet on. If so, I don't see how you got anything about "safety" from it.

I always heard that you figured how much of a helmet you needed by how much your head was worth. I.e. if you've only got a $50 head, a $50 helmet was good enough. I guess Big Ben figures a head like his isn't worth protecting.

avagadro- I believe most, if not all, contracts include language addressing a player not being able to play due to an off-the-field injury. From what I heard last night, if Roethlisberger can't play this year he could lose signing bonuses as well as salary.
