Here are some pics of my '01 QuadRunner with a 3000 pound champion winch freshly mounted. Special thanks to Bill in Nebraska for the fabrication on this bad boy. We designed up and cut the mounting plate to bring it all together.

Now that you have it, you'll use it. If only because your now going to look at that mudhole and say "Well, if I get stuck I have the winch to pull me out." BTDT, and it was FUN!

Nice set up the way it's mounted. Isn't that similar to the super winch? I wouldn't be without a winch. They will pull you out of places that someone with another ATV and a strap can't begin to get you out of. Enjoy the mud. Sam's philosophy is much the same as my own. Doesn't hurt to have some extra cable or rope with you JUST IN CASE. Ran into a guy a few years a go on a trail that had his tent and sleeping bag with him. I asked if he was camping and he said, "not this year but last year I was and didn't have this gear when my winch cable was 6 feet short of pulling me out." I try to learn from other peoples mistakes.

Yes, very close to the superwinch. Funny thing, after we finished it I looked at a winch mount built by Moose utilites. The Moose unit was just like one of our designs which would have replaced the front skid plate, but we went with this bumper setup instead.
I use this rig for work, so the winch is born out of neccessity. I need to play more to get my moneys worth.....

Not sure if it is a good deal or not. I picked the winch up on sale for $99 at Tractor Suppy Company the other day. Whether or not it is any good remains to be seen....

Let me just say it this way. I had a superwinch on my last wheeler. this one has a Warn. I like the warn. Although I didn't have any problems with it I didn't like the little pull thingy. I like the way the Warn free spools a little better. And there is a Warn parts place here. For $99 hard to argue that. If it breaks you could get another for what the warn costs.

I appreciate your honesty. Believe me, if this thing fails me, I'll post here first. No sense in someone else making my mistake.....

I wouldn't worry about it. Actually the rep told me that they had less problems with the Superwinch than the Warn, but you know what they say about salesmen, "you can tell their lieing if their lips are moving" Heck you could buy 3 superwinches for the price you paid than for what a warn would cost. That's the good news.

Well, I used it tonight. Worked fine. My daughter ran out of gas while riding her quad so I hooked the cable to hers and towed her home, BACKWARDS. Ok, not really a test, but I thought it was funny. Wish I would have had my camera with me.....

You will find lots of uses for it. I use mine mostly for hanging up deer and picking up the front of my riding mower to sharpen the blades or take the deck off. I have a couple of pully's in a tree for that purpose. One on a limb and another down near the bottom so the cable pulls close to level. There is an old pipe sticking up from on old hand pump that I just pull my wheeler up against and hook to the cable already on my pully's. Simple and quick to hoist something. miles

Kecatt, now that's funny. You'll be able to rub that in for awhile. If we are going out for a long one (went 50 miles on the memorial day weekend) we take an extra 2.5 gal. You will be glad you have that it's amazing a strap and good pull won't do what a winch can. Seen that several times. I usually carry extra rope and straps for a tow job. Fortuneately we've never had to use them. You'd like riding the trails up here. There can be plenty of mud, whoops, water. If you don't get stuck once a trip you aren't riding.

She's only seven so I can't give her too much guff about it. I picked up a 12' ATV tow strap to double as a tree anchor. It's a "just in case" sort of thing. We are planning a camping / trail trip to Milford lake in Kansas this summer. They have a large OHV area right next to some camping and fishing. Should be fun. Might have to use the winch tow combo.....

Sounds like a great time. We usually do something for the 4th of July, that has 4 wheeling and lots of mud. There's another place that we might go back that gets a little hairy riding the tundra. Holes can't be seen too easy and you can be pushing through the alders and fall a ways so we have to keep our eyes out. Good news is sometimes get to see moose out there or caribou, maybe a bear. I mean NOBODY will be back where we go. Just gotta keep an eye on each other and we carry those fold up Gerber saws in case somebody gets to hooked up in the alders.

Not a lot of places in Nebraska to ride. Ne is not real ATV friendly. Kansas is good, so is Iowa. I can't take my daughter to Iowa because she is on a 90cc and she is only 7 years old. We do what we can when we can.....
I'm guessing we would have a riot up there....

Yes and especially as your daughter gets a little older. Wise of you to keep her on an age appropriate machine to learn how to ride. It's not uncommon for 2 or 3 kids (I'm thinking 13 and under) to go with us on rides. Because daddys got money they generally ride a bigger machine than their age would be appropriate but the group is pretty good about keeping an eye on them and talking them through the bad spots (or pulling them out). If they learn how to ride as they grow up like my son did he started on a 400 by the time he was 14 but he was a big kid then and even bigger now. He's agreat rider. And it's good for the kids to see their parents play and have fun as well. I think it's great that you guys get out and do that.

kecatt,

I have a Warn 2500 on my Rancher. The best investment I have made was a snatch block for my winch. I have used it to pull a foot bridge back in place on the opposite side of a ditch, winch my Dad's shooting house he built up onto a ridge for him, and lift a very heavy 16' wooden deer stand up into a tree using an extension ladder and rachet strap. Luckily I have never had to use it to pull the four wheeler out of a hole. Enjoy.

Bob
