Gents:
A local smith showed me two reamers side by side the other day. His old 280AI "wildcat" and the new 280 AI SAAMI spec reamer. You could see that the contours for the shoulder are different--more rounded. I asked him to apply the SAAMI spec reamer to my non-spec 280AI. The case on the right is the SAAMI speced case post firing.

You can see from the shoulder to the neck the new spec is slightly fuller, less flattened out. In my rifle the net result is slightly longer chamber headspace...

It's a good reason to ask for the new reamer for a new build. Certainly better looking...:)

Nice looking case.

Should work fine.

With all the discussion of the differences it's great to see the two side-by-side. Thanks for that!

I have an old version; what Redding calls ".280 Rem Ackley Improved".

Those Ackleys are sexy!

I sold off my former reamer and HS gauges to ensure I never got them confused - and/or got any customer confused..

Only reamer and gauges I have now is for the SAAMI spec issue..
