Got a SS 300 win mag in a Rem 700. It's factory and has the mag profile barrel at 24". I plan to shoot it as is except for trigger work a must for stock replacement. Considering my want to tame the recoil, I'm considering Classic, Rem-Hunter or a Game Scout. The GS has Mag Fill which I like. I have a classic on a plain jane 7mag that I like. I also have lighter weight rigs in MR and McMillan-Hunter. Have some A3 varmint contours as well.

I plan on hunting with this win mag (if it shoots)out west at 500 and beyond. Leaning towards that game scout with mag fill right now or at least something heavier for recoil. Not concerned if I get a 10lb gun.

Anyone with experience with these three; Classic, Rem-Hunter or a Game Scout and a mag contour barrel???

Fore end on the rem hunter is awfully chunky with that contour. I have standard fill and edge classics and love them both

I have a standard fill Classic on a .257 Weatherby. I like it a bunch. I have a Mountain Rifle on a 7-08... I don't think I'd like a .300 Mangl'em in that stock very much.

+1 sold the rem hunter before even putting an action in it.

Was figuring that on the rem hunter. I'll be getting the classic or GS.

I have yet to tame the recoil of a 300 Win. Sharp blow to the back of the head. My favorite was a CDL with a good pad. Sounds silly but it did work the best. I think inside of 500 you could maybe find something in a lighter package that might not kill on both ends. Just a thought..
