I am working loads for a 9.3x62 CZ550
I am working with Nosler 286gr Partitions, I have a few questions
What depth are you seating to? The cannelure seems very far forward from where I would normally seat driving the bullet deep into the case.
Also does everyone crimp these, I normally load smaller bolt guns and don't crimp?
Any Pet loads would also be appreciated. Thanks James

I don't crimp for my 9.3 x 62. I'm using Prvi Partizan 285 bullets at the moment in my rifle.

.020" off the lands, seater die set to slightly crimp, 59 gr RL15, CCI 250,Norma brass . Very accurate and hell on elk..
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

Super group, BSA.
How fast do you think those NPT's were traveling?

Thanks buddy. I really need to chrono this load. I know it kills elk and works in conjunction with the ballistic plex reticle fairly well out to 400 yards. One of these days I'll chronograph it

I don't crimp mine either....as one mentioned .020" off the lands works. Good start for jacketed soft points.

I seat them about 3/8" off the lands--because that's as close as they get when seated to fit in the magazine of my CZ 550. The groups are about the same as bsa1917's, whether I use RL-15, Varget or Ramshot Big Game.
Have seen the same thing in at least 3 other 9.3x62's. It just shoots.

John, I've fallen in love with this cartridge. I like the CZ platform as well, it's very robust and has a very nice adjustable trigger (non set trigger) and is extremely accurate. The integral bases are nice and solid too, 5 cartridges in the magazine, smooth operating action and dual recoil lugs + CRF. My only gripe is it doesn't have the Winchester style wing safety. This is only a personal preference based on muscle memory or habit from shooting model 70's. However, If it (the safety lever) wasn't as sharp (shaped more like a m1917), I could see it being more user friendly. By the way, "3/8" off the lands" is a looooooooooong way ....

Groups like these seem to be pretty common. The 9.3x62 is a round that's easy to load for and seems to perform well with a range of bullet/powder combos.

I am happy to hear your input! I thought I was going crazy. I believe I am sitting on the lands with a length of 3.475(if I remember right) and to seat to their cannalure would make it 3.225. That's .250 off the lands!!
I plan to use mine for Elk also if the shot presents its self.
Has anyone had a problem of bullets changing depth in the magazine when shooting the top cartridges(those that don't crimp). I don't want to crimp; just worried about if I shot a few times the 3rd or 4th shot being affected.
Thanks again for the input James

Lee Factory Crimp die would solve that problem before it started.

DF If I go that route then I need to seat the bullet deep to the cannelure, right? Then I lose case capacity in the bullet is sitting a quarter inch (.250) from my lands!

No, you can crimp anywhere on the bullet with the LFC die. It sweges the neck against the bullet, and with softer bullets, actually makes a dent. The only bullets that may need some correlation with grooves are the monometals like the TSX, TTSX.

Thanks again for the input James How hard is it to set your die up to lightly crimp? A lot of guys here are telling you they don't crimp and that has worked for them. I use cheap azzed RCBS fl 2 die sets with no problems. However, I like to apply a very small amount of crimp for a couple reasons. YMMV...

I don't crimp any rifle bullets in cartridges with less recoil than the big .416's, and haven't ever seen bullets shift position due to recoil. This includes cartridges loaded for tube-magazine lever-action rounds up to and including the .348 Winchester.
Neck grip has far more to do with holding bullets in place against recoil than crimping.

BSA, DF & Muledeer, Greatly appreciate your crimping responses. Time to get busy! Powder: appears most have good results with RS Biggame but I can't find any locally. I have Varget, anyone using Varget and achieving near 2450fps velocities? I expect accuracy to be good either way James

big game and reloader 19 have proven very effective. I have heard good things abut r17 also. Right now my go to load is 65gr of big game, loaded to the crimp groove 3.225 ITs extremely accurate and runs right at 2460fps out of my 23 barrel
