Thanks to all the families for their courage and service on the 151 anniversary of Gettysburg.
The slave system of plantation economy is only a representative of the age in which it existed. It is to be neither extolled or vilified. For some reason, the notion of "America" means to some that we should have been immune or better than the prevailing methods of economic advancement of the day.
It would have ended, the same way Americas rural economy, industrial economy, and Space economy has gone away; when the POWERS decide theres a better way to lower costs or, a cheaper group they can invite into the capitalist gears, or technology advancement did it.
As to the formerly "wronged", theyve been given heavy incentives and opportunities to join the "party" in a responsible legitimate way. That they havent is completely on them, and a choice.
Those that have made it, I only wish would join together in loud, vocal rebuke of the others, and get their house together. Will I don't recall responding. Any of your posts, but this is a masterpiece that should be read and contemplated by any browned-skinned American who fancies themselves a savage African (american.)
"All that the South has ever desired was that the Union, as established by our forefathers, should be preserved, and that the government, as originally organized, should be administered in purity and truth." – Robert E. Lee

What an embarrassment the Civil War was for our country. Imagine killing each other just so some could keep slaves? Those slavers are why we have some of the problems we do today! Do you make it a habit of EMBARRASSING yourself every time you post? The war had little if anything to do with slavery. That was just the excuse dolts like you buy to make you feel good.

THen again, reading some of the follow-on posts, not only do they show ignorance, but downright stupidity.

Your relatives were shooting at my relatives at Gettysburg. One is buried there not a stone's throw from where Lincoln gave the address.

If you think the war was fought over slavery, your old enough to NOT be an idiot but obviously you are one.

You stupid [bleep], the covil war wasn't about a bunch of useless [bleep], it was about an overstepping federal gov't dictating to the individual states how they would run. Hell you probably think the Holocost was in bad taste was well Utterly and completely false. Historical revisionism at its worst.
Communists: I still hate them even after they changed their name to "liberals". ____________________

It was about Abe Lincoln's quest for tyranny

What's this Civil War that everyone's talkin' about? More aptly named the war of Northern Aggression

Why am I certain that the idiot damnyankee is showing his profound ignorance and spouting BS yet again? At least 99 is consistent. Consistently stupid that is.

I had ancestors on both sides at Gettysburg.
Lots of tough, brave men on both sides in that bloody awful fight.

Most, like derby_douche, Barak (that alone is self-explanatory), and other will stay home and years later play arm-chair quarterback. Others will stand and deliver.
America needs to understand that our troops are not 'disposable'. Each represents a family; Fathers, Mothers, Sons, Daughters, Cousins, Uncles, Aunts... Our Citizens are our most valuable treasure; we waste far too many.

One of my GGG uncles had his baptism of fire in the first day's fight. His Pennsylvania unit sustained 66% casualties at the McPherson farm. He was wounded and captured but released after the battle. I imagine wounded prisoners were the last thing Rebs wanted to deal with on a retreat.

General Longstreet didn't want that fight! Refused to order the troops into action and deferred it to Pickett! He KNEW it was going to be a losing proposition!!
