Does anyone have any experience with these shears that fit on an electric drill? I have a small steel roofing job coming up and my air compressor isn't strong enough to handle air shears.

It's limited in curves and corners in that it only turns to the left but all of my cuts should be straight.

I've used saws before. On painted roofing, they leave a rough edge that's prone to rusting, not to mention burning off the paint.

Would an air or electric nibbler suitable to the gauge metal you're working work ?

Malco makes quality sheet metal tools so I suspect they work fine.

I've used the regular Malco shears, but not this attachment. I didn't even know it existed!
I would be curious to know if, once it's installed onto the drill, does it stay in a fixed position, or will it spin around...
Of course I don't mean spin around at the speed of the actual chuck.
If it doesn't stay in a fixed position, I could see it being really awkward.
Kind of like one of those right angle attachments for a drill.
They're handy as heck when you need it, but they're also really awkward and almost require 3 hands!

What I've done in the past is use a Skil saw for cross cuts and then put that end where it will be covered by a trim. It's kind of a pain to go through the corrugations with shears on the cross cuts.
You can make cleaner, nicer rips with the shears, but they can still scratch the finish.

Now if I recall correctly, the trick with the skilsaw is to put blade in backwards, will that not work?

I already have a couple high quality drills so why spend another $200 for just 1 more motor? This is for a fairly small job.

The thing that looks like a lever on this Malco is a bracket that fits around the back of the drill to keep the cutter from spinning. The video on their website shows the guy using it one handed with no sign of spinning.

The malco stuff usually shows up in the autobody tool flyers I get in the mail.

I'm sure you've seen the variety of end tooling they have for different tasks and types of cuts.

I don't have any malco stuff so I couldn't tell you first hand.

Will you need to cut any bent or formed tin with it? Like ribbed tin?

Yeah, the video shows it going right through ribs.

This job will be only straight cuts but on occasion I need to do curves so I though this tool would be very handy to have around.

I can't find a right cut on their website, only left.
