I currently reload using an RCBS single stage currently. I'm interested in upgrading to make the process go a bit quicker and have a couple questions for you more seasoned reloaders:

1) Are all reloading dies (seating/decapping) interchange-able with presses? I have Hornaday and RCBS dies.

2) Do you guys chamfer/deburr if using progressive loaders? Or, do you just run everything right through (de-prime, re-size, prime, powder & seat bullets)??

thanks. Any advice/answers appreciated.

The dis are interchangeable. I measure a few of the cases for length, trim if necessary. And then load on the Dillon 550B.rick.

The only progressive press I am aware of that does not take standard dies is the Dillon Square Deal.

I chamfer/debur my brass for the first loading and that is it until I have to trim them. After trimming, I will do it again.

I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects

I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

Too much time is wasted on unnecessary case preparation. Progressive reloaders are made to reload quantities of ammo efficiently and quickly. Standard dies will work on these loaders, I use Dillon and just throw the brass into the hopper and pull the handle.

The Dillon 650 will easily do all the necessary case preparation of removing and reseating primers, resizing the cases and still crank them out in hundreds/hour.

The Dillon 550 will do about 1/2 the speed the 650 will, but still is way faster than the single stage...

After cleaning, you can normally run most handgun rounds right through.

Rifle brass needs to be lubed, sized trimmed and cleaned, and check case length as well.

An extra caution to observe with a progressive is to visually check the powder level on each case before seating a bullet, or have a dedicated station for a powder check die.

I can load handgun rounds fairly quickly on a single stage using efficient techniques...around 150-200 rounds/hour. I described how I do that in a previous post a while back.

It ain't all burritos and strippers my friends...
